Police in Rayong province are trying to locate the relatives of a woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase floating in a pond behind a golf course in Ban Chang district of Rayong province on Friday.
Police and EMTs rushed to the pond after being alerted by villagers, who reported that a strong odour of decomposition was coming from the bag.
One villager claimed that he saw the luggage in the pond on January 29th, but didn’t suspect anything sinister at the time and did not alert the police.
When police opened the bag, they found the body of a blonde woman aged about 30. They think that she had been dead for about five days. Two iron discs, each weighing about 10kg, were also found in the luggage, presumably in an attempt to keep the bag submerged.
Pol Maj-Gen Pumin Singhasut, commander of Rayong provincial police, said he suspects that the woman was killed elsewhere, stuffed in the bag and dumped into the pond to cover up the crime.
He said that they have instructed officers in police stations in the province and neighbouring Chon Buri to check whether they have received reports of missing people in the past week.
He also said that there is a case of missing person at Nong Kham sub-district police station in Chon Buri, adding that police will call the complainant to identify the victim’s body.
Police will also check footage from CCTV at and around the pond to find out how the body in the bag ended up there.
