A Turkish man claimed he was robbed of 73,000 baht by a transgender thief in Pattaya on Pattaya Central Road, the third similar report this week alone.
At 5:06 AM on January 22nd, Mr. Mustafa, a 52-year-old Turkish national, filed a complaint at the Pattaya Police Station, claiming he was robbed of €500 and $1,200 (approximately 73,000 baht). The incident occurred on Central Pattaya Road.
Mr. Mustafa told police that while standing in front of a hotel, a transgender woman approached him on a motorcycle, engaged in friendly conversation, and offered sexual services. Mr. Mustafa refused, but the transgender then hugged and touched him before quickly fleeing on her motorcycle. Later realizing his wallet was missing, Mr. Mustafa immediately reported the incident to the Pattaya police station.
Pattaya police are reviewing CCTV footage to track down the suspect as of press time.
This is not the first incident this week that involves foreign tourists being robbed of valuables. Just one day before, an Indian tourist reported his 80,000-baht gold necklace being stolen by a group of transgender women on Pattaya Beach. And, one day before that another Indian tourist claimed his gold necklace worth over 130,000 Baht was stolen, again by a group of transgender women on Pattaya Beach.
Pattaya police have warned tourists on multiple occasions to not wear expensive jewelry while out and about and to be wary of friendly strangers approaching them, especially if hugging or touching them. Major crime against tourists is fairly rare in Pattaya but petty crime, like pickpocketing, is more common.
