Nakhon Ratchasima Battles Fourth Wildfire, Over 1,000 Rai Lost This Year

At 10:00 AM on January 9th, 2025, a wildfire reignited at Khao Loi in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, after being previously contained on January 8th.

Northeast Forest Fire Control Center 3 deployed 35 personnel and collaborated with five agencies, including Khao Yai National Park and the Phayayen Subdistrict Administrative Organization, to combat the fire.

Firebreaks were created to protect nearby homes, and an AK32 helicopter was scheduled to assist in firefighting efforts.

Despite overnight operations, the fire remained uncontrolled at press time and was expected to spread to lower ground near the Royal Givery Resort by noon today, January 10th. This marks the fourth wildfire in the area since New Year, with over 200 rai destroyed in this incident alone, adding to nearly 1,000 rai lost to fires this year.

And it just coincided with the sugarcane burnings, prior to harvesting. Strange that.

I doubt there's any sugar cane where the fires are, Prag. It's a forested mountainous area.

Butt even here at the fag end of lanna a careless cigarette butt can readily set a whole forest ablaze, almost as much as a flash of pyjama might inflame passion .

Evidence Suggests Arson in Devastating Khao Loi Wildfire in Nakhon Ratchasima

On January 11th, 2025, Thai officials reported the containment of a wildfire at Khao Loi within the Khao Siad Ai, Khao Nok Yoong, and Khao Ang Hin National Reserved Forests in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima.

The fire began on January 3rd behind Udomsuk Temple, destroying 200 rai. Despite containment efforts, new blazes erupted on January 5th, 7th, and 10th, spreading across steep, rocky terrain and consuming over 1,500 rai.

Challenges included strong winds, dense fuel, and inaccessible areas, necessitating helicopter water drops on January 11th to slow the fire’s spread, according to the officials.

Local authorities coordinated efforts from multiple agencies, including Khao Yai National Park and local disaster relief teams, to protect nearby communities.
