Lost in Pai: American Tourist Safely Rescued from Forest

On January 9th, 2025, Pol. Lt. Col. Suwit Boonyapen, a tourist police inspector in Mae Hong Son, reported that an American tourist, Mr. Daniel James Murphy, 68, was found after getting lost in the forest near Pai District.

The Pai Rescue Unit, along with local villagers from Yapho village, conducted a search after receiving the report at 9:00 AM.

The tourist, who had lost his way while hiking, was located at 12:21 PM and safely brought back to a secure area by 1:30 PM. The tourist was unharmed and expressed his gratitude for the efficient rescue operation.
Pol. Lt. Col. Suwit urged local tour operators to remind tourists to hike with experienced guides to prevent similar incidents, as such cases frequently occur in the Pai area.
