Pattaya Takes Action Against Homelessness and Begging on the Beachfront

Pattaya authorities are taking action to solve homelessness and begging in public areas, with a recent operation targeting individuals along the beachfront.

On December 11th, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, Ms. Thitiphan Phettrakun, teamed up with Pattaya police, Banglamung District administrative officers, and officials from the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center to survey public areas throughout Pattaya to solve homelessness and begging.

The focus was on the Nong Or community following complaints from local residents about groups of homeless people causing disturbances by gathering, drinking, and acting aggressively. However, the officials only found one homeless person in the area, as others had reportedly moved elsewhere in Pattaya.

The team then moved to Pattaya Beach Road, where they discovered a large group of homeless people and beggars sleeping and sitting on sidewalks along the beachfront. Four homeless individuals were identified and taken to Pattaya Police Station for further documentation and assistance programs.

Ms. Thitiphan stated that the operation was carried out in response to complaints from concerned residents. She noted that fewer individuals were found in the Nong Or community than she expected, possibly due to the timing of the operation.

Ms. Thitiphan stated that homeless people negatively impacts Pattaya’s image as a world-class tourist destination. She emphasized that resolving these issues requires collaboration with various agencies, as Pattaya does not have the laws to specifically address homelessness and begging.
