Indian Tourist in Pattaya Says Foreign Thief Stole His 210,000 Baht Gold Necklace

In the early hours of this morning, December 12th, on Second Road near Soi Yensabai, a foreign tourist fell victim to a daring snatch theft. The event was reported at approximately 00:36 AM to R.T.T. Akkraphong Saenputawong, the deputy investigation officer at Pattaya City Police Station.

The victim, identified as Mr. Merlin Dhanapalan, an Indian national, along with a friend, were riding their motorcycles on Second Road when they were accosted by thieves. According to Mr. Dhanapalan, a foreign individual and a foreign passenger, whose nationality remains unidentified, approached him on a motorcycle and aggressively snatched his gold necklace valued at around 210,000 baht (56 grams). During the theft, the perpetrators’ motorcycle toppled, leading to a scuffle. Despite the victims’ attempts to resist, the thief managed to escape after righting their bike while the passenger fled on foot.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found Mr. Dhanapalan and his companion visibly shaken. The incident was captured by CCTV cameras, which showed two tall, foreign-looking suspects, dressed in long-sleeved shirts and pants, with their faces concealed by balaclavas. The footage depicted the struggle during which one thief fled on foot while the other quickly recovered the fallen motorcycle to escape.

Pol. Lt. Akkharapong Saenputawong, along with a team from Pattaya City Police, conducted a preliminary investigation at the site. The officer reviewed the CCTV footage and interviewed the victims to gather more details. The police are now intensifying efforts to trace the culprits, using the video evidence and other clues from the scene.

The Pattaya City Police Station has assured the public that they are committed to apprehending the suspects and bringing them to justice. They encourage anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Driving around Pattaya a night on a bike wearing a 210,000 baht necklace. Some people have zero common sense.

Interesting perps. They had the gear (balaclavas) with them and presumably slipped into their balaclavas before striking. Some street cameras somewhere might have caught them without their balaclavas. Perhaps on a stolen bike. They've possibly done this before. A good challenge for the cops.

Yes, I imagine that's the one of the first angles the cops would work. Dumbasses if they're trying that one though.

British man arrested for snatching tourists’ jewelry in pattaya... à¸[at]่านข่าวต้นฉบับได๠‰

Indian Tourist in Pattaya Says Foreign Thief Stole His 210,000 Baht Gold Necklace-screenshot-2024-12-14-12-35-aJordan, a 31-year-old British national, is arrested in Bang Saray, Sattahip, Chonburi on Dec. 13, 2024.

PATTAYA — A 31-year-old British man was arrested in Pattaya after being caught on surveillance cameras snatching jewelry from two foreign tourists. The man, known for his muscular build and distinctive tattoos, was identified as Jordan.

On December 13, Police Lieutenant Colonel Thananon Athipansee, Deputy Commander of Pattaya City Police Station, along with investigators from the Crime Suppression Division and the Immigration Police in Chonburi, arrested Jordan at his room in Bang Saray, Sattahip, Chonburi. He was wanted for two separate thefts involving foreign tourists in Pattaya.

According to police, Jordan committed the first theft on the night of December 8, targeting an Iranian tourist in Soi Buakhao, Pattaya. CCTV footage from the area captured the incident. He struck again shortly after, stealing a gold necklace worth over 200,000 baht from an Indian tourist near Soi Yen Sabai, in the Nong Prue area of Pattaya. CCTV also recorded the second theft.

The surveillance footage revealed that Jordan was riding a motorcycle with a friend and wore a face mask to conceal his identity. At around 10:02 p.m., the Iranian tourist was walking along Soi Buakhao when Jordan jumped off the motorcycle, snatched the necklace, and fled on the bike that his accomplice had parked nearby.... อ่านข่าวต้นฉบับได้ที่ :

Pattaya Police Arrest British Man in Connection with Two Gold Chain Thefts Against Indian and Iranian Tourists

CCTV footage have led to the arrest of a 31-year-old British national, identified publicly by Pattaya police as Mr. Jordan Ezra, following two separate robbery incidents in Pattaya City. The crimes, which involved the theft of gold necklaces valued at 200,000 baht each, had both taken place in the past several days. Mr. Ezra, however, has claimed he is bipolar and has memory loss problems and as a result is denying involvement as of press time.

The first incident took place on December 8th at approximately 10:00 p.m. in Soi Buakhao in South Pattaya. A tall, masked foreign-looking individual approached Mr. Maziyar Dezfooli, a 33-year-old Iranian tourist, from behind, snatching his gold necklace before escaping on a blue Honda Click motorcycle with an unknown license plate. Despite attempts to chase the thief, Mr. Dezfooli was unable to retrieve his property.

Five days later, on December 12 at 12:05 a.m., another robbery was captured on CCTV near Soi Yensabai on Pattaya South Road. This time, two suspects on the same type of motorcycle accosted Mr. Merlin Meshak Dhanapalan, a 42-year-old Indian national. The assault involved punches before the theft of another gold necklace. The motorcycle lost control during the escape, forcing one of the robbers to abandon it momentarily, but both managed to flee the scene. The video of the incident is below.

Following these incidents, both victims reported the crimes to the Pattaya City Police Station. Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit, the station chief, instructed Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Athipansee to lead the investigation. The police reviewed footage from over 40 CCTV cameras around the crime scenes and along the escape routes, identifying the suspects as likely non-Thai, possibly European, due to their height and build.

The breakthrough came today, December 13th, at 5:00 p.m. when Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Athipansee, with the aid of a court-issued warrant, arrested Mr. Jordan Ezra at his residence in Moo 2 in Bangsaray. Ezra, who entered Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, was charged with robbery at night using a vehicle to aid in the crime, causing physical or mental harm to others.

However, during interrogation, Ezra denied all charges, claiming he suffers from bipolar disorder and has a “short memory,” stating he could not remember the events in question. Despite these claims, the police remain confident in their ability to prosecute due to solid CCTV and evidence allegedly linking Mr. Ezra to the crime, and efforts are ongoing to locate the second suspect still at large.

^probably a Jewish surname, but it's also a biblical name.

I know 3 people who have that name as a given name in PH, and they're Catholic/ Protestant. One of them is a girl. They said their moms got their names from the Bible.

On another note, why are there so many Indian tourists wearing gold necklaces?! I get that it's a status symbol but they should've left it at home or in their hotel room safe! SMH.
