Temperatures in the northeast are forecast to drop by 4-6oC and by 2-5oC s in the northern, eastern and central regions, including Bangkok and its peripherals, from today until next Tuesday, due to the presence of a strong high pressure system from China, according to the Meteorological Department.

The southern region will see heavy to very heavy rainfall from tomorrow until Sunday, due to the intensification of the north-eastern monsoon, which is looming over the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region, compounded by the movement of a low pressure cell over the southern part of the South China Sea across the Gulf and into the Andaman Sea.

People in southern provinces are advised to brace for flash floods and watercourse overflows in low lying areas.

Strong winds and waves of between 2 and 3 metres are forecast in the Gulf, and waves over 3 metres in stormy areas. People living along the coastlines should be aware of the possibility of storm surges, while small vessels should remain ashore.
