The Phuket Forest Department told the Phuket Express that on Saturday (December 7th) they inspected the Freedom Beach in Karon. The inspection came after the Royal Forest Department received complaints from concerned citizens that many temporary stalls were set up to sell food and drink on the beach.
All of the sixteen stalls that they found were demolished. No one was found present at any of those stalls. The Phuket Express noted that the beach is in the area of the Nak Kerd Mountain Reserve Forest. The beach is being planned to officially enact a ‘Recreation Forest’ project.
It is strictly prohibited to allow any sort of vendors of any sort on the beach and had become a national issue previously, as seen below. The decision isn’t without controversy, as some tourists have stated they would like to see the ability to purchase food, drink, chairs, and umbrellas but Thai officials have been firm that this will not be allowed on Freedom Beach.
