People living in provinces to the south of Chumphon, some of whom are still reeling from the effects of recent flooding, are advised to brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall from tomorrow until Thursday.
The Meteorological Department reported today that a low pressure cell from the South China Sea is moving across the Gulf and the southern part of Thailand into the Andaman Sea and that this will bring heavy rain to Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Phang-nga, Krabi, Phuket, Trang and Satun.
Very heavy rain is forecast for parts of Songkhla, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
Deputy government spokesperson, Sasikarn Watthanachan, said today that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her deputy, Phumtham Wechayachai, have instructed all relevant agencies to be prepared to provide help to those in need, including the setting up of temporary evacuation shelters and mobile kitchens.
Meanwhile, in Pattani, the flood situation remains critical today, after the Bang Lang Dam discharged more water from the reservoir yesterday, to ease pressure on the structure.
More water is being released from the reservoir again today.
More than 140,000 households in 12 districts have been affected and seven people have died so far, most by drowning.
Pakaharang sub-district, which was the first to be flooded in Mueang district, remains under 1.5m of water and boats are the only viable means of travel.
Volunteer village boat operators in the sub-district are complaining that they are running out of funds to buy fuel for their boats and are appealing for help from the government.
