Disgusting that "employers" can't give low paid workers a safe environment to work in, cost cutting chasing the big $$$.
One things for sure there is plenty of time to do it correctly and safely the second time around, there always is - though they probably won't - twats...

driving south out of bangkok along that road for the past few years has been a nightmare.

this massive and spectacular elevated road and bridge construction project continues for about 40 miles day and night whilst 3 or 4 lanes of traffic each side hurtles by alongside and underneath it, as workers balance precariously 60 feet above the road and huge steel and concrete sections of road overhanging the highway are raised, positioned and fixed in place onto the supporting pillars

concrete is mixed and poured into the pillars and gigantic metal structures, hundreds of feet long, like the one that has collapsed, dangle over the project, whilst dust, debris, water bottles and hard hats rain down on the road below, and all the while traffic proceeds as normal in thailand, i.e. bumper to bumper at as high a speed as possible, with overloaded pickup trucks and madmen in mercs cutting in and taking advantage of any gaps in the traffic open up.

the highway itself has been badly damaged by all the heavy construction vehicles and there are potholes and loose asphalt sections everywhere, especially on the outer lanes.

two or three times in the past huge concrete sections of the elevated roadway have collapsed on the traffic below killing both workers and drivers, but calls for improved safety seem to be ignored.

this accident seems to be the most serious, but as only workers, and foreign workers at that, have been killed, i doubt if anything will change.

as usual funerals will be held, paid for by the companies involved, wais will be given, paltry compensation will be paid and more workers will be hired to replace the dead ones.

the engineering involved in this project is nothing short of miraculous, but safety seems to have been forgotten.

Death toll in Rama II construction site increases to six

The death toll in the accident at the construction site of the Bang Khun Thian-Ban Phaeo elevated motorway in Samut Sakhon province has increased to six, two Thais and four Myanmar migrant workers.

The nine who were injured are currently being treated at a hospital in Samut Sakhon.

f the six victims, it is reported that rescue teams have still been unable to retrieve one of them, as the body was still trapped in the debris. The teams are awaiting the removal of the collapsed steel frames.

The deputy provincial governor said the families of the deceased will each receive 860,000 baht in compensation.

He also said that three cranes arrived on trucks at the construction site at about 3pm today, to start removing the steel frames and a concrete beam from the Rama II Road, which is likely to take some time as officials must consider public safety.

The out-bound Rama II Road, heading towards Pak Thor in Ratchaburi, and the in-bound road from Pak Thor have been closed near the site of the accident, with motorists switching to another road to get to Nakhon Pathom province.

According to the Highways Department, there were 2,242 accidents on Rama II Road between 2018 and January this year, resulting in 132 deaths and 1,305 people being injured.

A truss supports things, and a crane lifts things.

Thai Transport Minister Orders Full Probe and Compensation After Rama 2 Bridge Collapse

At 5:30 PM on November 29th, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit inspected the Rama 2 bridge collapse site, where a construction beam failure caused six fatalities and nine injuries in Samut Sakhon.

Suriya offered heartfelt condolences and announced immediate compensation of 1 million baht per deceased victim from the contractor. Construction on the project has been suspended for 14 days while a thorough investigation is conducted.

The Department of Highways established a panel of experts, including members from the Engineering Institute of Thailand and the Council of Engineers, to assess the structural safety and determine the cause. A detailed report is expected within 15 days.

The government is also finalizing stricter contractor accountability measures, including blacklisting for fatal negligence. Contractors failing safety standards could face a one-year ban from state projects, with repeat offenses resulting in permanent disqualification.

Emergency efforts are underway to clear debris from the collapsed site. Engineers and heavy machinery have been mobilized to dismantle damaged steel and concrete beams, with work expected to be completed in 14 days.

In the meantime, authorities aim to reopen parallel lanes for traffic as soon as possible to ease congestion.

Suriya emphasized that restoring public confidence is a priority. All future infrastructure projects will undergo enhanced safety assessments to prevent similar tragedies. “We must ensure all projects meet engineering standards before opening them to the public,” he said.

Even your link calls them "steel frames" while the article itslef calls them "a concrete beam and a crane".

I suspect it's millennial reporters that don't know shit, sort of like those at the Daily Express and the Daily Mirror.
