Garbage monthly collection fee in Bangkok rises to Bt60

Households in Bangkok which do not separate their recyclable garbage will pay a higher collection fee of Bt60 per month to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

Yesterday, the Bangkok City Council endorsed, by a majority vote, an ordinance to increase the garbage collection fee for households which do not separate their garbage. The new fee will become effective 180 days after the issuance of the bylaw.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkaphan Piew-ngam said that the amount of garbage being collected from households in the capital has been increasing steadily and the city administration is spending an average of 2,300 baht per tonne to dispose of it.

Separation of garbage by households can ease the burden on workers responsible for disposing of the garbage, by incineration and in landfills.

He said the increase in the fee is intended to encourage households to separate the garbage they generate everyday into that which is for recycling and that which is for destruction. It is also intended to make the public aware of cleanliness and environmental management, he added.

Does anybody believe garbage stays separated at the tip other than by the 'worth something', eg cans, and 'worthless' categories?

I am all for recycling we generate a small bag of unrecyclables per week

How many bins do you have we have 4

Luckily in a rural garden all food waste composted fed to pets/birds

1 Waste cardboard sold yesterday 110 baht was about 2 beers for a years worth of Lazada boxes, luckily inlike urban folks have lots of space
2 Glass basically a wine bottle per week a Absinthe or Scoth once a month so about 16 bottle per quarter which carboard man takes free
3 Cans around 2 per week of ale and one of canned fish or baked beans rinsed and sold to same man, I had to buy 3 large bins with lids for hygiene

I save all batteries for visit to city as the sole battery recycle in the village seems to have disappeared/closed.

I agree with Cy that pretty sure mixed landfill used to be until they moved the town dump.

On a visit to UK many streetscapes are just rows of the large plastic wheely bins 3-6 required by local authorities.Problem in coatal places if you leave plastic bags Seagulls tear open

A way forward for glass is deposits so kids will collect or get credit at Supermarkets as in Finland.
Expanded poly which is used as protection on Frideges TV I use as Loft insulation but not all in appartments can do that, like food traus and plastic bags need a deposit/phase in bio degradeable alternatives.

Germany introduced seperate collection of recyclable waste and organic rubbish. They even insisted that any item ccontaingg food waste was washed before separation.

The incentive was very effective. If you don’t separate your waste, and you don’t wash it as required, we will not collect your waste.

I saw quite a few salengs riding around collecting nothing but dry and wet cardboard.

I don't know if they were using it for papier mache or something. Perhaps that's how they make those Phi Ta Khon masks.
