The Supreme Court affirmed today the life sentence for a school director in the murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend 12 years ago.
The victim, Mayuree Yodphanao, was a factory worker in Si Maha Phot district of Prachin Buri. She went missing without trace in May 2012.
After about eight years, the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the charitable Mirror Foundation, asking them to determine whether she was still alive.
The foundation then checked the files of deceased people whose remains had not been claimed by relatives. It found the case of an unidentified woman who was found dead in the middle of a sugarcane plantation in Wattana Nakhon district of Sa Kaeo.
The case was then referred to Wattana Nakhon district police and an investigation was launched. It was discovered that the victim had an affair with a school director in Suphan Buri province, identified as Chumphol, before her mysterious disappearance.
In 2021, police in Wattana Nakhon district arrested Chumphol in Suphan Buri and he was indicted on a murder charge. Both the Criminal and Appeals courts sentenced him to life imprisonment.
