66-Year-Old British Man Dies in High-Speed Motorcycle Crash in Sattahip

A 66-year-old British man, who had just returned to Thailand for one day, tragically died after crashing his motorcycle into a U-turn sign in Sattahip.

The tragic accident was reported to Sattahip police at 8:40 PM on October 5th, 2024. Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene at a U-turn sign on the inbound side of Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip district, Chonburi province, to find the foreigner with critical injuries.

The victim, identified by police as 66-year-old British national Mr. Garrad Nigel Melvin, had suffered a fractured skull and a large laceration at the back of his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Garrad was believed to have crashed his red-and-black Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle, which was found heavily damaged nearby, into a U-turn sign. His wife, Mrs. Sureerat Garrad, 49, along with his unidentified foreign friend, rushed to the scene after hearing the news. They were all overwhelmed with grief.

According to an interview with Mrs. Sureerat, the victim had just returned to Thailand one day before the accident. He had gone out riding his motorcycle with a friend. Upon hearing that her husband had died after crashing into the U-turn sign, she rushed to the scene.

An eyewitness, Mr. Apiwat Subindee, 37, stated that he saw two large motorcycles speeding by. The first rider made the U-turn and headed towards Pattaya, but the second one, who was traveling at high speed, crashed into a U-turn sign, throwing the rider in one direction and the bike in another.

Mr. Garrad’s body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death. Authorities contactee his embassy as well.

He would have been jet lagged too.

Some folk simply never grow up, they just get older and then they die.

What about Mia Nigel? Tragic for her. She probably borrowed loadsamoney on the basis that the ETC machine, Bank Nigel, was returning this week and would flood her with cash to pay for all that expensive medicine for the herd of sick buffalo she claims to have. I feel sorry for her. A bit.

    Too flippant, perhaps?

My points were first that deaths are tragic. Not for the deceased, for those left behind.

Second, from my own observation around here, most of the mia farangs are entirely dependent for their lifestyles on their farang partners. Not all, many. Mia Nigel might be a financially independent angel of compassion, in which case well done. More likely she'll find herself with bills to pay and some difficult decisions to make.

Glad he didn't take any innocents with him.
