Thread: Taxi Passenger Dead, Driver Seriously Injured, After Container Falls From Truck

A passenger died while a taxi driver sustained severe injuries after a container which became loose and fell from a trailer truck hit the taxi on a motorway in Bangkok.


The Lat Krabang Highway Officials were notified of the accident on Saturday night (September 30th) on the Kanchanaphisek Motorway.

First responders arrived at the scene to find the container on the road and nearby was the wrecked taxi. An unidentified female passenger, aged 40, was found outside the taxi. She was later pronounced dead at the scene. The taxi driver had sustained severe injuries and had become stuck in taxi during the accident, his name and age was not immediately available to the press.

A second taxi passenger, only described as a 45-year-old male, sustained minor head injuries. Meanwhile, the trailer truck driver and his passenger, described only as his daughter, sustained minor injuries as the truck crashed into road barriers following the container falling from the vehicle. All the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.


The Thai Highway Police told Thai media that CCTV footage shows the container fell off from the truck before bouncing onto the opposite lane, crossing the central reservation, and hitting the taxi. Police are continuing their investigation for further potential legal action.

I suppose "a container which had not been properly secured" is a bit accusatory.

I expect they kept the meter running and the injured passenger will get the invoice

I've had a few near-death experiences in Bangkok taxis although I have to admit that being crushed by a shipping container wasn't on my list of things to worry about. I can add it now.

The container should be fixed to the trailer with ISO-Locks on each corner, accompanied by at lease 1 ratchet strap per 10' of length to be secure.

My second guess is ISO-Locks, that hadn't been locked.

I'm a big fan of avoiding trucks with stuff on that could fall off.

I don't stay behind them and if I'm overtaking it's very very quickly.

In Australia if your on a roadie it's not uncommon to be sharing the highway with " roadtrains" a truck pulling 3 trailers usually all 3 trailers with a container , I've never heard of a container falling off
