TasteAtlas.com has revealed that Thailand’s beloved street food dish, Phat Kaphrao, has claimed the top spot on the coveted "Best Stir-Fries in the World 2023" list, solidifying the menu’s popularity with a remarkable score of 4.8 out of 5.


The world-renowned culinary ranking website placed another Thai favorite, Pad Thai, in a respectable 8th place, securing a score of 4.4. South Korea’s Dak Galbi claimed the second spot on the list with an impressive score of 4.7.


Other Thai dishes making the Top 50 list were Phat Si-io with a score of 4.3, Khua Kling earning a score of 4.2, and stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts at 3.7.


TasteAtlas.com, which features recipes and food reviews from critics worldwide, praised Phat Kaphrao for its outstanding attributes. The site highlighted that Phat Kaphrao, characterized by its combination of minced meat or seafood with holy basil, shallots, garlic and chili peppers, is further enhanced with soy sauce, sugar and fish sauce.


Phat Kaphrao is typically served with rice, a fried egg and a side of fish sauce, creating a blend of flavors and textures that have captivated both locals and tourists.

I had never heard of dak galbi and had to look it up.

Great sauce made with kotrajan pepper paste and lots of veg.

In my opinion pad see-ew doesn’t deserve that high of a score. It’s ok, but generally it’s a pile of gluey fried noodles.

To each their own. It’s all subjective anyway.

A decent khua gling moo is delicious, but hard to find. The ubiquitous kaprow is pretty good too, an easy and reliable lunch fallback, but all too often lacking in flavour because it has been made with too few basil leaves. An egg hard fried hard will disappoint too. Surprised not to see a green curry on the list.

One of my favourites.

Eat it about once every ten days.

I like my noodles fat.

My wife, oddly enough, makes a superb pad krapow. We love it so much we grow our own basil as it can be difficult to source here.

Thai basil..it grows like weeds when the seeds first sprout, but getting a mature plant here is fooking difficult.

A pad krapow is indeed great, however a really good restaurant one isn't always guaranteed. Too often a small stir fry and too much rice, and a lack of vegetables/basil. You can usually guess the quality of what you're getting by the condition of the fried egg. So many Thai dishes can fall within the 'stir fry' category, even some of their curries. Panang curry is essentially a stir fry, and for me beats a pad krapow hands down.

Why would you commit such heresy? There is nothing better than pad krapow and if the word "curry" is in the name, it means it's been cooked slower than a stir fry.

pad Krapow is good, but its essentially Thai beans on toast equivalent, you have it when you can't think of anything else or you want something reliable/ difficult to fuck up
