Thread: More rain forecast for most of Thailand on Tuesday, including Bangkok

More thunder storms with isolated heavy downpours are expected across the country today (Tuesday), while isolated very heavy showers are likely in the northeast and east and along the southwestern coast, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.


These weather conditions are due to the monsoon trough, which lies across Myanmar and the north and northeast, and a low pressure cell over the middle of the South China Sea. At the same time, an active low pressure cell is covering the coast of Myanmar while a rather strong southwest monsoon is blowing across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf.


About 60% of Bangkok and its suburbs are forecast to see scattered thunder storms through the afternoon and evening.


The department also predicts rough seas and strong winds in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, with waves up to 3 metres high and taller in stormy areas, as it advises small vessels to stay ashore.


About 70% of the northeast and east of the country are expected to be hit by heavy to very heavy rain. Affected provinces include Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakhon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Roi Et Yasothon and Amnat Charoen.


Heavy rain is also expected along 60% of the south-eastern coast, while 70% of the western coast, including Phuket, Ranong, Krabi, Trang, Phang-nga and Satun, will see heavy to very heavy downpours.
