Bank Robber Arrested With 207,000 Baht at Samut Prakan Shopping Mall

A bank robber was arrested with 207,000 baht in cash at a shopping mall in the Bang Plee district.

The Bang Plee Police told TPN media that they were notified of the incident on Sunday night (June 4th) at a shopping mall on the Bangna Trat Road in Bang Plee Yai sub-district.

They arrived at the scene to find the suspect who had already been caught by security guards from the shopping mall. The suspect was identified only as Mr. Taweesak, 37, who is a delivery bike messenger as his normal route of employment. Taweesak told police that he had 500,000 baht debts for online gambling.

Police reviewed CCTV footage at the bank on the third floor of the mall. The suspect used a screw driver to force a bank staffer to get money for him. The suspect also had a hostage with him before he released the hostage and ran away before he was caught.

Mr. Suripong Jaornhatairat, a security guard at the mall, told TPN media that he was notified from the bank about the robbery before he called police and informed the security center of the shopping mall. All doors were locked before the suspect was caught by security guards on the first floor of the mall who held the suspect for police.

The suspect remained in custody as of press time.

fearful of the violent debt collector goons who will have been pursuing him for his gambling debts, desperation drove him to commit a crime that he must have known he stood no chance of pulling off successfully.

the lengthy time he will now spend in gaol will most likely spare him the attention of the debt collectors.
