Australian Couple Arrested in Phuket For Allegedly Stealing 2.5 Million Baht from Chi

A wanted Australian couple has been arrested in Phuket after they allegedly stole 2.5 million baht from a Chinese man in Bangkok.

On May 29th, Mr. GAO JIANJIA, 35, Chinese national, filed a report to the Phaholyothin Police. He told police he posted online that he wanted to buy digital money via BINANCE. A suspect contacted him via a Telegram application and agreed to buy for 2.5 million baht. They made an appointment to meet at a bank in Ladprao on May 29th. Mr. JIANJIA then took out 2.5 million baht in cash from his bank account.

The victim he met with a male foreigner who said he was a representative to get money from Mr. JIANJIA. which had been confirmed in the online chat. The male foreigner got the bag of money from Mr. JIANJIA before putting it on a chair near to him. While Mr. JIANJIA was waiting for the digital money to be transferred into his account the bag of money disappeared. The male foreigner said he had no idea where it went before he fled.

Police checked CCTV footage and they saw that a foreign woman took the bag in the bank. The foreign couple apparently worked as a team and allegedly stole the bag of money. The couple then fled to Phuket.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau told TPN Media on Friday (June 2nd) that they have arrested MRS. HINSON LILY JAY, 28 and MR. GALLETLY JOSEPH, 47, both are Australian nationals. They were arrested near the Thalang Police Station on May 31st.

The suspects have not released a plea or statement about the allegations as of press time and remain in custody.

That’s quick police work. But the lack of finger pointing has me perturbed. How did we know who the criminal are?

(^ looks more like a honey badger than a honey trap...)

Although the police did an excellent job, sadly, they were unable to find the cash.

In other news, the PPD is buying three new Fortunas (in black, black windows, Phuket gun club stickers on the back) and 15 gold necklaces.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

    2.5m?.
Make that one Fortuna and a few gold necklaces.

My first direct example of local police bonus earnings was last month, daughter #1 was a passenger in a car hit by another vehicle at an intersection, other driver at fault, and accepted this, fully insured, he was also requested to pay her 10,000 baht as the vehicle hit the left-front door and she did bump her head. Cop took 3,000 as handling fee, but she wasn't bothered and the 7,000 has probably gone now on clothes and shoes, as it does.

^ your daughter is facilitating corruption!
(having said that, the first time I was a victim of Thai corruption (I did my Thai driving license in the morning and expected to receive it before I needed to be at work in the afternoon, only to be told that I had to actually drive around the carpark in the afternoon - I told the fella behind the glass partition that I didn't have time, but here's 200 baht for the fast service; he handed me my new shiny Thai driving license 15 minutes later...) I was delighted. It's a slippery slope I tell ya...)

I knew I'd get called on the 3 Fortunas and 15 gold necklaces, so I prepared two possible answers:

    1) The PPD after getting monies (for services rendered) from the Australian pair & the Chinese fellow did indeed have enough for 3 Fortunas and 15 gold necklaces.

    2) The PPD get a hefty discount at the local Toyota dealer and gold shop.

    Take your pick.

People always complain about corruption until it helps them in some way. I moved here for to be able to pay my way out of things, let's not dabble with tradition.
