    If only there were such things that could check background radiation levels (from whatever source) and check non background radiation levels for use in plants with radioactive substances. Oh, there are... Geiger counters for one.

    Which article?

    Not that it matters. The Chinese ship is taking scrap metal. It makes no difference what the metal is used for. There is still background radiation. Geiger counters are still needed and used.

    That would be why I said:

    It seems there is a supposed to be a market for this low background steel in things like Geiger counters, but since background radiation isn't really a thing these days, it's more likely the chinky scum were just pillaging scrap.
    And then I explained why.
