Young Woman Found Dead in Pattaya, Murder Suspected

A young woman was found dead at an apartment in Pattaya and Pattaya police suspect she was murdered.

The Pattaya City Police were notified of the incident on Saturday (May 20th) in the morning at an apartment in Central Pattaya. Police arrived at the room to find the body of a Thai woman, Ms. Rattana Thamrak, 32.

Rattana was found face down covered in dried blood. About ten knife wounds were found on her body and blood traces were found on the floor in the room.

Police believed that she died at least four days before her body was found. Inside the room law enforcement found broken glass and signs of a physical altercation and struggle.

Ms. Suwapet, 61, a maid who works at the apartment complex, told police that a bad smell was emanating from the room. She knocked on the door but there was no answer and she was concerned as she had not seen the tenant in several days. She told the apartment owner and called the police before they used a key to open the room and found the horrific scene inside.

Mrs. Big (a pseudonym), 23, a neighbor of the victim, told Pattaya police that she was talking with Ms. Rattana all day on May 14th. Ms. Rattana normally had many men who contacted and visited her at her room, according to Mrs. Big. She was a former staffer at a bar in Soi Bua Khao but she was currently unemployed. The name of her former bar was not given to the press by Mrs. Big.

The Pattaya City Police Chief Colonel Thanapong Poethi told the Pattaya News that after reviewing CCTV at the apartment complex police have identified three male suspects and police are continuing their investigation.

One Suspect in Gruesome Murder of Pattaya Woman Claims Innocence

Pattaya Police are intensely interrogating an unidentified man believed to be involved in the gruesome murder of a Pattaya woman.

The younger brother of the victim, Mr. Amnat Thammarak, 28, visited the Pattaya Police Station yesterday, May 20th, to give his statements about the grisly death of his sister, Ms. Rattana Thamrak, 32, who was believed to be stabbed to death inside her rented residence on Soi Chaloemphrakiat 19 in the Banglamung district of Chonburi province on Saturday, May 20th.

Mr. Amnat revealed that he and his mother were in deep sorrow over the loss of Ms. Rattana. Before she passed, she often called to seek solace from their mother when she felt down. Her death might be related to her personal relationships, drugs, or that she might know some secret of the culprit, Mr. Amnat said.

Lead Investigator at the Pattaya Police Station Pol. Lt. Col. Ittikorn Saikratok briefly disclosed to The Pattaya News that the police had summoned a male suspect, whose name is withheld pending the legal process, for questioning. While the motive for the murder mainly revolved around a dispute related to a love affair, police have not dismissed other possible factors, Lt. Col. Ittikorn said.

Meanwhile, news reports suggested that the summoned suspect conceded to knowing the deceased for about a month, throughout which he tried to show his affection for her. His last encounter with the victim was when he went to her room after she had called him to collect money for drugs on May 16th, according to his claims.

On that day, he found another man named Kik in the room with the deceased. He said he once had a conflict regarding a different woman with Kik, so he decided to leave the room.

Once he arrived at his own room, he received a message from Ms. Rattana, telling him to leave her alone.

However, he was unsure if the other male party, Kik, was the one who delivered the message or not, so he simply replied with a short “Okay.” He noted that while all three of them were in the room together, there was no sign of argument and violence. It was only later when he learned of Ms. Rattana’s passing that he felt shocked and saddened because he secretly had feelings for her.

Police continue to investigate the story given by the unidentified suspect and search for “Kik”.

Prime Suspect Reportedly Admits to Murdering Pattaya Woman

A prime suspect wanted in the vicious murder of a young Pattaya woman reportedly conceded to murdering the woman with the broken glass in a picture frame due to a financial dispute, according to Pattaya Police.

The suspected murderer, Mr. Watcharaphon Ansongkram or Kik, nicknamed “Kik Kilo 10”, 39-years-old, arrived at 10 AM today, May 24th, at the Pattaya Police Station to undertake an interrogation regarding the murder of a young Pattaya woman, 32-year-old Ms. Rattana Thammarak.

Responding to a question to The Pattaya News team, Watcharaphon briefly stated that he apologized for the incident before entering the station.

Watcharaphon was arrested in the village of Kut Bak which lies at the border of the upper northeastern Thailand Kalasin province. He was hiding at a small wooden cabin where he was arrested by police officers who subsequently transported him back to Pattaya where the crime took place.

The man of Thai nationality appeared tense and had cuts and bite marks on his left hand between the thumb and index finger, The Pattaya News team reported from the police station.

According to an interview with Pol. Col. Thanapong Phothi, Superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station, who was responsible for the case, the suspect stated during an initial questioning that he did not mean to kill the victim, only that he acted out of impulsiveness.

As for the motive, Watcharaphon reportedly alleged that the victim refused to return 30,000 baht that she owed him, which fueled him into killing her, Col. Thanapong said.

He continued that the killing occurred on May 16th when Watcharaphon and Ms. Rattana, the deceased, engaged in a heated argument over the above money. The suspect attempted to collect the money from her, but she reportedly resisted and began to raise her voice. In response, Watcharaphon covered her mouth with his hand and squeezed her throat, causing Ms. Rattana to fight back and bite his hand.

During the struggle, the two accidentally collided with a picture frame within the victim’s apartment complex, causing it to fall and shatter. Ms. Rattana then reportedly grabbed a piece of glass and chased after the suspect. This enraged the suspect who then in return grabbed a piece of glass and stabbed the victim multiple times in the neck, face, and shoulder until she became motionless, after which he fled, Col. Thanapong said.

However, the superintendent said the suspect was only in an early process of questioning. Pattaya Police will hold a press conference to provide the exact details of the murder later tomorrow, May 25th, while in the mean time, the suspect will be intensely interrogated, Col. Thanapong stated.

The Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act remains a 'work in progress - Bangkok Post - but in cases like this, a little 'encouragement' may be appropriate

There's an article in today's Bangkok Post
Uncover the chilling history of the nation's ever-changing penal system at the Corrections Museum

To get a confession, a culprit was placed inside a big rattan ball equipped with numerous sharp nails before being kicked by an elephant. It was also possible for them to be tormented by having their chins dangled from a large iron hook, while the feet were lifted off the ground.

Pattaya Police Provide Update on Murder of Young Thai Woman

The murderer of a young Pattaya woman confessed to murdering the woman for a debt she refused to repay him, according to the police. The suspect also turned out to be a former convict who had just been released from prison two years ago, police said.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Kampol Leelapraphorn, chief of Chonburi Police, announced the results of an operation to arrest Mr. Watcharaphon Ansongkram, the 39-year-old murderer of a young woman, today, May 25th, at a press conference at the Pattaya Police Station.

According to him, Watcharaphon or Kik, nicknamed “Kik Kilo 10,” admitted to killing the victim, 32-year-old Ms. Rattana Thammarak, by stabbing her multiple times with a piece of broken glass in a picture frame over a claim that she had refused to repay him 30,000 baht.

After murdering the woman, Watcharaphon stole the deceased’s phone and a blue Honda Wave motorbike and left Ms. Rattana’s apartment complex. He is charged with physically assaulting another person to death, theft, and taking illicit drugs.

Upon checking his criminal record, the police chief also found that Watcharaphon had only been released from prison two years ago after being convicted of robbery, using a weapon at night, causing severe bodily harm to others, and attempted murder. The court slapped him with a prison sentence of 4 years and 10 months but he was released on July 10th, 2021, after staying in prison for two years.

At the end of the conference, Pol. Maj. Gen. Kampol suggested property owners apply basic security measures to ensure the safety of renters. These measures may include installing CCTV cameras and hiring a security guard to protect residents.
