Alleged Motorbike Thief Driving Against Traffic Killed in Vehicle Accident in Sattahi

A Thai man who the Na Jomtien police said was a motorbike thief died in a collision with a sedan while driving against traffic last night in Sattahip.

Police at the Na Jomtien Police Station were notified of a fatal traffic accident at around 8:30 PM on May 16th, and rushed to the accident site at the Na Jomtien sub-district of Sattahip district, Chonburi.

They found the victim, Mr. Chalermphon Phairin, aged 42, lying deceased on the road. He was face-down and had suffered heavy bleeding and multiple fatal injuries. Chalermphon of Thai nationality was pronounced dead at the scene by Sattahip police.

The authorities questioned the involved sedan driver, Ms. Kittiya Waikula, 29, waiting at the scene. She claimed she was driving her white Toyota Yaris sedan back to her house in Pattaya after work, and crashed into Chalermphon’s motorbike. The victim was speedy and drove against the traffic, Ms. Kittiya alleged, and the road was also very dark.

Chalermphon’s vehicle, a red Yamaha Filano motorbike, jammed into Kittiya’s sedan bumper. However, police found out later that the vehicle was actually stolen from Mr. Nerarit Arison, 20, who later showed up at the scene.

He told The Pattaya News that he had been at the Night Market in Pattaya to buy some items and had parked his motorcycle there. When he came back, he found his helmet on the ground without the bike.

Using the GPS of an iPad kept under the seat, Nerarit eventually found the motorcycle. He was also shocked to learn that the thief who stole his vehicle had been killed in a collision.

Police were investigating the incident. Chalermphon’s body was transported to a local hospital.

These fucking Somchais who ride contra-flow to the oncoming traffic should all be shot on sight. Fuckers are a real danger. Nearly got wiped out by one fucker while I was crossing Second Road as he sped up towards me. Forced him to swerve out and he just missed a songthaew.
Still, it did give me a chance to hurl abuse at a pygmy local which is always good for morale.

Just think, if he had stolen the helmet too, he might still be alive.
