Major Fire Guts Garbage Dump for Many Hours in Pattaya Area

A major fire gutted a garbage dump in Takhian Tia for many hours last night, as we first reported on our social media channels.

Firefighters were notified of the incident on Friday night (March 31st) at the waste pit located near Village Number 3 in Takhian Tia. Firefighters with more than 10 fire engines and The Pattaya News swiftly arrived at the scene. The garbage area is surrounded by a cassava plantation.

It took many hours until the fire was brought under control. The massive blaze was about two kilometers from a residential area.

Locals from Village Number Three told the Pattaya News that the area turned into a large pit for more than 20 years and a variety of garbage is dumped there.

The cause of the fire is unclear and was still under investigation by relevant fire authorities as of press time.

There were no injuries from the blaze, however, smoke engulfed the nearby village and brought immediate concern from residents, several of whom contacted The Pattaya News to report the inferno.

The last few weeks have seen a number of fire related problems in Thailand, such as this major blaze in Nakhon Nayok.

On March 17th, a major fire broke out at a scrap yard in Pattaya in which thick black smoke could be seen across Central Pattaya. There were no injuries from this incident either.

On March 4th, a major fire broke out at a records building in Bangkok used by Thai police, in a case that drew significant discussion on social media.

Finally, in late February, a homeless Cambodian man set a fire at the so-called secret beach in Naklua, damaging hundreds of thousands of baht of fishing equipment. He was later arrested.
