Thai Tourist Stumbles and Gets Her Leg Impaled by Wire Mesh in Pattaya

An unfortunate Thai woman was walking on a Pattaya walkway when she stumbled and got her leg impaled by a sharp, iron wire mesh.

Sawang Boriboon rescuers were alerted to an accident on a walkway on Thepprasit Road in Pattaya at 9 PM Tuesday night, March 28th, and rushed to the scene. They found a Thai woman, Ms. Sirima Khummode, 42, sitting on the footpath and crying in pain.

Sirima informed the rescuers that there was an iron wire lodged in her right leg and that she was bleeding. The rescuers then promptly took action and carefully removed the wire from her leg before transporting her to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The injured woman later told The Pattaya News that she came from Rayong province to visit Pattaya. As she parked her vehicle and walked to buy food on the side of the street, she accidentally stepped on some protruding iron wire mesh on the footpath that she did not see. The wire penetrated her ankle, causing her to scream for help from passersby to call for assistance.

The mesh is about 2 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. There are no warning signs on the walkway. Some Pattaya locals stated that the walkway has been under improvement since October 2020 and was supposed to be completed last September according to the construction contract.

No responses from Pattaya officials are available as of press time although the city has recently stated that they are aware of the delayed construction and trying to get it completed as soon as possible.

Negotiating the pavements of this uncivilised country is akin to completing a commando course.

Speeding motorcyclists, open manholes, debris cascading down from building sites, loose pavings, vats of boiling oil precariously perched on rickety stands, dangling live electric cables, dripping aircon pipes leaking their fetid gloop, feral dogs, rabid rats, piles of steaming dog turds, etc.etc.etc.

but I bet the woman in the article was glued to her phone and not watching her step.

You forgot advertising hoardings. Certain places up here have so many they might as well have not bothered building what they call a footpath.

I have said this before but it bears repeating, the infrastructure of Singapore in 1966 was infinitely better than that which prevails now throughout this ghastly backward country.

A continuing disgrace that successive governments do nothing to change.

Shitty people, shitty society, shitty country.

Made a run last night to get a bottle of Gentleman Jack for myself and some snacks for the village kids only to get delayed for about an hour by an older German gentleman who tripped on some parking lot pavement. Literally had to pick the old boy up and find a chair for him to sit in … dude had several contusions, was sweating profusely and seemed pretty daggum dazed for quite a spell. Finally got him loaded up in a taxi and on his way to wherever he lives. Must give thanks to the 2-3 Thai fellers who helped with bandages, tissue and some water. And , oh yeah to you farang losers who kept walking by eyeballing but not saying a word or offering any assistance … Fukc you and the horse you rode in on!

Storekeeper - you helped more than most would have! If everyone in this world could lend a helping hand to someone else every once in a while instead of worrying about themselves and their wealth, we would be in a much better place.

On another note - how does someone get impaled on wire mesh? If it regular Rebar woven type wire mesh like this - Belleville Wire Cloth Co. | A Certified Wire Cloth Manufacturer

Unless it is broken or ripped somehow - I believe it was something else - at any rate - hopefully the tourist can recover and injuries are minimal. Get the tetanus shots ready!

Walking down Suk.Soi 22 last night I saw Thai woman get bumped off her feet by a car.

Opposite the No Idea pub the pavement is already very narrow, it has now been made even narrower by the hoardings enclosing the massive construction project there and its width is further reduced by the gas bottles, barbecues, flaming woks, tables and washing up bowls set up by the scruffy food sellers illegally located there to service the burmese labourers and the few unwary tourists brave enough to ingest the filthy slop on offer. Once you get past that you have to contend with a pavement seamstress who works round the clock and just past her is a pavement cocktail bar with a boombox and drinks served by a lipsticked gimlet eyed urban slapper who has definitely seen better days.

Anyone trying to get past that lot has to walk in the very busy road, competing for space with passing motorcycles, cars, taxis, those big fuck off luxury vans that seem to be multiplying like rabbits on the roads here and the massive tour buses that service the hotels. A Thai woman trying to get home after work yesterday slipped off the kerb and fell onto the side of a car, had she slipped 2 seconds earlier she would have fallen into road in front of the approaching car. She was not hurt.

But nobody from the food carts came to her aid, and the car driver just gave a loud blast on his horn and zoomed off.

    Fucking shithole.

I tihnk I read on TD the tragic tale of a retreaded civil surf who went on "holiday by mistake" to a place called Pattaya to pick up fallen women but ended surrounded by taxidrivers. Russians pie ,and sausagemongers under the SlobNeft GlashNosh and PikeyStroke her initiatiff.

Our youngest one was still in a stroller when we lived/worked in Thailand . . . coming from Singapore, what a difference.

Not sure how old the guy was but he appeared to have some serious respiratory and circulatory issues that are probably a far bigger health concern for him. Said he had no wife or girlfriend. Just chit chatting and observing him had me wondering how many old farang buggers die alone and anonymously with no family or loved ones around to comfort them at the finish line. The dude’s facial expressions looked really scared up until the last few minutes before loading him into the taxi.

Couldn't state statistics if any but I personally know of several. Alone for different reasons. Some by choice, others abandoned.

Better to die alone than in the company of a machete wielding Somchai.
