AOT to Expand Don Mueang Airport Terminal for Tourism Boost

Following cabinet approval last year, Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) has unveiled its plans to expand Don Mueang International Airport’s low-cost terminal, aiming to increase passenger capacity and boost tourism income for the country.

According to AOT, a budget of 36.8 billion baht has been allocated for the project, which is set to being this year and be completed by 2029. The expansion, which includes the construction of 12 aircraft parking stands and 11 jet bridges, will increase the airport’s handling capacity from 30 million to 40 million passengers per year.

The expansion project will be carried out in six segments. The first segment will involve the construction of a new concourse and third passenger terminal building in an area south of the airport, along with the renovation of a seven-story car park. The second segment will focus on the airport’s northern side and include the expansion of the northern concourse, renovation of aircraft parking bays, and development of VVIP lounges and offices. Other segments of the project include constructing a flight operation area, renovating passenger terminal building 1, and carrying out environmental work.

Airports of Thailand Plc is a majority state-owned company responsible for managing and operating six international airports in Thailand. Its airports include Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, and Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai. The agency provides world-class facilities and services that meet international standards and promote Thailand as a preferred destination for business and leisure travel.

There has been an obvious bottleneck at DM immigration outbound for years.

Hopefully this development will address that.
