Thread: Chinese Woman Abducted for 4.7 Million Baht Ransom in Pattaya

A Chinese woman has been abducted while getting her kid at a school in Pattaya. Her husband filed a complaint with the police, saying the suspects wanted 4.7 million baht in exchange for his wife’s freedom.

Mr. Ma Mingshan, 33, visited the Pattaya Police Station to file a report yesterday, March 20th. He said his wife, Ms. Shan Qi Qiang, 33, has been taken away by anonymous abductors while she was going to get her 3-year-old son at an international school in Pattaya.


Mingshan said the suspects forced their way into his wife’s SUV Nissan Terra and abducted her along with the vehicle. They then contacted him via WeChat and ordered him to transfer 1 million yuan, equivalent to 4.7 million baht, to them. The incident happened in Soi Chaiyaporn Pranimit 21 in Pattaya.

Police are working with Mingshan to try to liberate the hostage. The Chinese husband revealed the abductors frequently called him yesterday to demand money, asking him to pay in stable cryptocurrency. The man already transferred about 500 USDT stable coins (about 17,140 baht), while the suspects wanted about 150,000 USDT.

The wife, according to police, is safe as the suspects let her talk with her husband via WeChat. However, her location is still unknown.


The motive behind the kidnapping is believed to be related to a conflict of interest between Mingshan and the suspects involved in the healthcare business in Myanmar. Pattaya Police said all involved parties probably know each other. The victim’s car was ditched in the middle of a deserted field, police said.


Police are interviewing the victim’s husband to identify the perpetrators. The search for the kidnapped wife is continuing.

Chinese Hostages in Pattaya Safely Released, One Suspect Arrested

A Chinese woman and her brother have been safely released today, March 22nd, after being abducted by their fellow Chinese. One suspected kidnapper was arrested while another fled back to China.

Police last night apprehended a Chinese national at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 11 PM in reported connection with the kidnapping of a Chinese woman and her brother on Monday. The man was about to abscond from Thailand to China, according to police, however, his accomplice had already managed to flee to Shanghai.

Thai police on Monday began an intense investigation after Ms. Shan Qi Qiang, 33, and her brother were reported missing by Qiang’s husband, Mr. Ma Mingshan, 33. The officers searched several locations in Pattaya and Rayong after they were able to detect the abductors’ communication signal while they were demanding 4.7 million baht from the hostage’s husband.


Mingshan transferred 970,000 baht to the kidnappers before his wife’s car was discovered abandoned in the Banglamung district of Chonburi by police. The officers noted the Chinese husband, who is a businessman, was not so cooperative, and suspected that he probably knew the suspects.


At 4 AM today, March 22nd, Mingshan’s wife and his brother were safely released and returned home in Pattaya. The two were not injured but seemed weak, according to police.


They are being interviewed by the officers as of press time who are still trying to determine the steps that caused the incident to take place.

Big Joke Follows Up on Chinese Ransom Case in Pattaya, Operation X-ray to Target Ex-pat Criminals

‘Big Joke’, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Surachate Hakparn, arrived in Pattaya on Friday (March 24th).


Big Joke told the Pattaya News that Thai police have contacted their counterparts in China with Interpol ‘Red Notices’ to extradite suspects in the ransom case that managed to flee Thailand. Meanwhile, the one arrested suspect has refused to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and is reportedly refusing to speak to any law enforcement or media.

According to Big Joke, the Chinese nationals involved in this ransom case are known criminals in an organized gang that China has previously cracked down on, causing them to flee. Following the Chinese crackdown the Chinese nationals escaped to Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. Some of them were doing call center scams, some were illegally staying in Pattaya without a proper visa, and some were committing crimes like this ransom targeting other Chinese nationals.


Chinese and some other foreign expats in Pattaya will be scrutinized closely as part of ‘Operation X-ray’ to make sure that they aren’t involved in illegal businesses and other crimes, Big Joke added, without giving specific details or information.


TPN media notes that Operation X-ray has been run before by the Thai police in prior years and involves scrutinizing Immigration and Police records to identify wanted individuals currently in the Pattaya area and then targeting these individuals for removal.

Operation X-ray also involves using sophisticated technology such as Immigration vehicles equipped with smart cameras to identify certain wanted individuals who may be walking on a street or area. This technology has often been used to catch overstaying foreigners.


Operation X-ray also involves much closer scrutiny of visa renewals for foreigners of concern, including questioning sources of income and their backgrounds. This is especially true for those of working age without work permits and an uncertain line of income.


In recent months heavy scrutiny has been on education and volunteer visas in particular with Big Joke previously stating many Chinese criminals in partnership with corrupt Immigration officers were using these visas to stay longer in Thailand but not actually volunteering or going to school. Many were working illegally or running illegal businesses.


This scrutiny is expected to get even tighter.

Perhaps he may wish to investigate the funding of the large venues established between Second and Third roads which everyone thought were for variety shows and restaurants for organised Chinese tour groups but are in fact sex shows for them.

The fiction practised by the Thai that this Chink organised crime activity came as a “surprise” is as ludicrous as most of their stupid lies.
