Thai Cop Goes Berserk, Say Witnesses, and Fires Many Rounds of Bullets in Residential

A Thai special branch police member with a reported history of mental illness went berserk, say witnesses, and fired multiple shots within his residential area in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district, terrifying neighbors.

The ongoing incident happened in the Bann Mong Kon area of Soi Jirama-korn today, March 14th. The violent cop, who is a special branch police member according to Thai media, suddenly fired his gun multiple times in the neighborhood.

Police officers from the Sai Mai Police Station rushed to the area and cordoned it off from citizens and reporters. The suspect is being surrounded as of press time, and there is currently no report of injuries.

Attempts at negotiating with the cop have been unsuccessful, according to Thai media. Pol. Col. Rangsan Sornsing, superintendent of the Sai Mai Police Station, revealed that the cop’s neighbors told him the cop has a mental health problem.

“At present, the officers are cordoning off the area and negotiating with the man to surrender himself. There are no reports yet of any injuries or fatalities from this incident,” The superintendent stated.

The intense standoff between the officers and the man continues as of press time.

    This is a developing story.

They might want to think about getting armed officers to check their firearms in and out, not allow known nutters to carry arms and generally think twice about arming chickenheads in general

    Lucky boy....

More shots were fired on Wednesday morning. A policeman in the street outside was hit on his helmet by a bullet, but was unhurt.

Tense armed stand-off in Bangkok ends with police storming the house

Firing teargas and rubber bullets, special operations officers stormed a house in Bangkok’s Sai Mai area today (Wednesday), to subdue an armed former police officer and end a tense 27-hour armed stand-off which began yesterday morning.

The police officer, identified as Pol Lt-Col Kittikarn, sustained serious injuries during the operation at about 12.10pm. An ambulance was seen leaving the house carrying the injured police officer.

Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, the deputy national police, was at the scene to supervise the police operation and told the media that the armed man will be sent to the ER of Bhumibol Hospital for treatment.

A police officer from the Second Division of Metropolitan Police Bureau, told the media that Kittikarn, could not speak to police yet because he is very weak, having not eaten or slept for two days.

He disclosed that Kittikarn was in the middle of the process of being transferred to another division because of his psychiatric problems, which may stem from stress at work or at home.

He said, however, that Kittikarn might have lost control after doctors at the Police General Hospital were about to send him for psychiatric assessment.

Before the police use of force to end the stand-off, Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, the national police chief, arrived at the scene at about 11.30am. He told the media that he had tried to talk with Kittikarn, but the effort was fruitless because the man was tense and suspicious of other people.

With the completion of the mission, the special operations police unit returned to their headquarters, leaving forensic teams to inspect the house and gather evidence. About 60 bullet casings were found.

Kittikarn is reported to have fired multiple shots into the air and was heard shouting, sparking fear among people living in the neighbourhood.

A special operations police team arrived at the scene at about noon yesterday and tried to persuade the suspect to come out, only to be at fired at from the house.

His mother and son were also brought to the scene to plead with him to surrender, also without success. Police even tried to flush him out of the house with teargas and stun grenades, but to no avail until, finally, they decided to storm the house.

Yes, definitely the preferred solution to actually finding him some mental health care.

when the only two qualifications necessary for joining the thai police force are having a close relative already in uniform and/or enough money to buy an entrance test result, it is hardly surprising that many policemen are mentally and emotionally unstable spoilt chickeheads unable to control their natural inclinations towards violence, bullying and controlling.

Man involved prolonged siege with police dies in hospital Wednesday night

The police officer, who was arrested after a day-long armed stand-off with special operations officers at his house in Bangkok’s Sai Mai area, has died from wounds he sustained during the siege.

Pol Col Rangsan Sornsing, superintendent of Sai Mai police station, said today (Thursday) that Pol Lt-Col Kittikarn died at about 10pm at Bhumibol Hospital, to which he had been admitted for emergency treatment yesterday afternoon.

He disclosed that there was a shootout when the Arintaraj police unit stormed the house where Kittikarn was holed up at about noon yesterday, adding that the officer, who had psychiatric problems, tried to escape arrest by jumping through a window on the second floor of the house.

Pol Col Rangsan also said that Kittikarn was found to have been shot and was rushed to Bhumibol Hospital for emergency treatment before being pronounced dead.

Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, the national police chief, has pointed out that this tragic incident should serve as a lesson to all senior police officers to closely observe their subordinates who develop psychiatric problems and need counselling, according to Royal Thai Police Spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Archayon Kraithong.

He said that the Royal Thai Police will compensate people in the neighbourhood whose property was damaged during the stand-off.

According to Pol Maj-Gen Atthaphon Anusit, commander of the 2nd division of Metropolitan Police Bureau, Kittikarn suffered from cumulative stress due to family and health problems.

Kittikarn failed a psychiatric test and doctors from the Police General Hospital were about to visit him to arrange treatment for him, but the officer became agitated and started shooting at his house, prompting a police unit to be sent to the house to try to disarm him.

Random health checks of police at all stations ordered after Sai Mai stand-off

Thailand’s police inspector-general, Pol Gen Visanu Prasarttong-Osoth, has ordered all provincial police bureaux to conduct random checks of the physical and mental health of the men in every police station, in an attempt to ensure that they are healthy to avoid a repeat of the recent armed stand-off in Bangkok’s Sai Ma area involving an officer.

In the incident, a police officer with reported psychiatric problems shot at his house with a handgun and then engaged in an armed stand-off with police for about 27 hours, which began on Tuesday morning. At noon yesterday (Wednesday) police decided to storm the house to disarm him. The officer was shot and taken to Bhumibol Hospital, where he died last night from his wounds.

In addition to the random health checks, police should encourage members of the public to report any police officers who appear to have psychiatric disorders.

Family claim Thai police overreacted when ending armed stand-off

The family of a police officer, who was killed when police stormed his house to end a daylong stand-off last week, are seeking justice from the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) over what they believe was the police’s heavy-handed handling of the siege.

Anuchit Thatkhieo, a lawyer representing the family of Pol Lt-Col Kittikarn Saengboon, told the media today (Monday) that he was assigned by the family to seek justice from Sai Mai police and the OAG, as the family believe that the special operations police who stormed the house might have overreacted.

The family pointed out that the house in which Kittikarn had been holed up had sustained many gunshots, with several bullet holes in the back door, as if the police were hunting for a criminal suspect instead of trying to disarm a mentally-troubled man, said Anuchit.

He said the family also pointed out that there are several bullet holes in the window on the second floor, through which Kittikarn had tried to escape.

The Sai Mai police had intended to file multiple charges, including attempted murder, resisting police arrest and discharging a firearm in a public place, against Kittikarn, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital following the operation to capture him.

What a bunch of BS. The guy had several guns and had been firing them off the whole time. He even hit a cop in the head, thank goodness the copper had a helmet on. Heavily armed mentally ill copper firing random shots in a small muban is how it should read.

The grasping avaricious chickenheads are hoping to preserve his rights to a police pension, which would otherwise be cancelled because of his actions.
