Pattaya City Bans Parking on Beach Side, Effective From March 1st

Starting from March 1st, 2023, parking on the Pattaya beach side will not be allowed, according to Pattaya mayor Poramase Ngampiches.

The move was reportedly prompted by an increase in traffic issues after tourism in the city started to pick up.

This caused polarizing reactions on social media, with many residents saying it was a good decision. However, those living outside Pattaya said they would stop coming to the city, asking where they would park their vehicle now that the ban is back.

Of course that's gonna stop the baht buses from stopping wherever they want to pick up and drop off passengers.

What would they be parking there to see or walk to if there's no Walking Street? And the owners of all the buildings that will be knocked down, will they just donate their properties or will the Gov't be buying what's probably the most valuable 400 or so meters of commercial real estate in Pattaya? And how will this fix the traffic problems a few km's away along Beach Road? So many questions

To be fair I only ever see the Baht Buses stop on the left side of Beach Road to pick up or let pax off and it's the right side they want to stop all parking on which would effectively make another lane. Good idea in theory, no chance in practice unless they put a cop every 100 meters handing out 5,000 Baht fines, and even then...

Parking on the right side of Beach Road was in effect the consequence of COVID and the government’s attempt to compensate for loss of international tourism by encouraging domestic visits over the weekends and public holidays, chiefly from Bangkokians who came in their droves lured by the 50% discounts on hotel accommodation etc.

The impact of course was that it removed a lane from the carriageway, more or less, but it didn’t matter since there was no traffic flow to speak of other than locals and the Bangkokians.

The sublime bliss of COVID has now dissipated and traffic has returned in ever increasing volumes. So we are really returning to the status quo.

Walking Street is simply a manifestation of the endemic corruption and mafia/clan rule that prevails pretty much everywhere in Thailand. The development that has been built on the right side of the street is largely illegal as I understand it given there is no land title but……

Incidentally, Thai do not go to Walking Street except for the dance clubs which have proliferated since the Marine Disco opened all those years ago. Whoring for blue collar farang dross is becoming very passé and largely limited to fat bellied old farts retired from ditch digging or their friends, usually ageing Antipodeans. The rest of the mobs that congregate there these days are tour groups following flag waving guides, assorted wobbleheads, Camel fuckers and Russians rubber necking.

The dance scene is a great driver for the Street now and hundreds of the young from the region and Bkk come down at the weekend for it.

Headfuck of course wouldn’t know that given his focus is limited to that of a fat bellied old fart retired from ditch digging…..

Parking on the right side of Beach Road has never been permitted unless expressly authorised.

I can tell you, Pattaya needs some good ditch diggers a lot more than it requires retired pen pushers.

Gunna put a tennis court and a putting green on my reclaimed land.

The artificial grass will look great with some potted plants.

Just park under Royal Garden. Tons of space as no one is going there anymore.

Pattaya Buses and Boats to Move to Bali Hai Pier, Parking on Beach Side Banned

Pattaya mayor Poramase Ngampiches and city officials met on Wednesday to discuss new parking spots after parking on the Pattaya Beach side is set to be banned from March 1st.

On February 15th, the mayor announced on social media the return of the ban on parking on the Pattaya beach side of the road from March 1st in response to increasing traffic issues.

The mayor said he was finding new parking spots for tourists, which may include a parking space at the wastewater treatment plant in South Pattaya near Walking Street.

People could easily get to Walking Street and Bali Hai Pier from this spot, according to the mayor.

The ban on parking, which will go into effect from March 1st, is also applicable to buses and boats, Poramase said, adding they would need to relocate to Bali Hai Pier. Boats will no longer be allowed to pickup customers on the beach directly and tour buses should only drop off and pickup passengers at Bali Hai Pier.

The mayor would officially inform the public and tourists of this change again later.
