Five students suffer burns at a scout camp in Nong Bua Lamphu Province

Five boy scouts suffered burns, with three of them in a serious condition, after one of them tried to light a bonfire at a scout camp in Non Sang district of Thailand’s the north-eastern province of Nong Bua Lamphu on Friday night.

A relative of one of the injured students said in his Facebook post that the five students had unsuccessfully tried to light a bonfire. Then a supervising teacher suggested that they soaked a piece of wood in benzine first.

One of the boys dipped a piece of wood in the gasoline and lit it, but the flames set fire to the shirts of the students, prompting them to scatter in panic before someone went to their rescue.

The relative said that he is waiting for an explanation from the camp supervisor about how the accident happened.

He said that his nephew suffered 90% burns, has been put on a ventilator and is under close watch by doctors at Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen province.

This incident was in another Amphur, not too close to me. I'll not go off on a rant about what kind of adult could tell a child to use petrol as an accelerant because I recall reports of allegedly grown up people in the UK doing similar with their barbecues, with similar results.
However, I was reminded of this story when, early this morning, out for the daily amble, I found a neighbouring farm has been turned over to a scout camp for a few days. Driving along the lane towards the farm was a truck, piled well above the gunwhales with whatever stuff scouts need lots of. On top of the stuff were a couple of scouts, clinging on as best they could.
What a comfort it must be to parents to know that their children are being led by responsible adults.

That's more than just a bit of wood dipped in gasoline. Someone is telling porkies. Perhaps the kids managed to soak the wood and their shirts in gasoline. Or perhaps more likely they tried to throw a bucket of fuel into an already lit fire...

They didn't have an arsonists badge when I was in the scouts.

Would it be the Arsonist's Badge or the Self Immolation Badge?

its what happens when you step away from tradition. Had they used some plastic as a starter as is the norm all would be well.
