The Highways Department sustained more than 30 million baht through the theft of equipment in 2022, about 13 million baht more than the previous year.


The most targeted items by thieves include electrical wire, traffic signal equipment, transformers, steel mesh and W-beam guard rails.


According to the department, electrical wire worth about 13 million baht was stolen last year. Losses from the theft of transformers is estimated at 8.2 million baht, while steel worth 2.2 million baht was taken, along with 1.5 million baht in W-beam guard rails and traffic signal equipment worth 1.5 million baht.


Chon Buri province reported the highest losses, followed by Bangkok and Prachuap Khiri Khan.


The Highways Department has sought cooperation from the public in looking after the department’s property and watching out for thieves or vandals. They can report suspected thefts by calling 1586 or 1193 around the clock.
