    Mystery as fit and healthy Brit diving instructor found dead on 'Death Island'

    A British diving instructor has been found dead at his bungalow on tourist hotspot 'Death Island'.

    Neil Giblin's body was discovered in his bungalow on the island of Koh Tao in Thailand on Wednesday after two female clients flagged that he had not turned up for work.
    The fit and healthy 48-year-old from Birmingham is believed to be the fifth diving instructor to die on the tourist hotspot, where diving is a lucrative business, in recent years.
    Police say Mr Giblin died of natural causes with no sign of struggle.
    But friends have raised concerns amid a series of unexplained deaths of tourists on Koh Tao, which has been dubbed Death Island.

    Given his body was only found on Koh Tao on the 18 January there hasn’t been time for an autopsy to be conducted and reported. So the reported comments of the police are valueless.

    Clearly, this would be a matter for the British embassy to urgently address but then, we are talking about an organisation that consistently approximates a chocolate teapot or glass hammer.

    What's clickbait about an article that mentions "Death Island", I ask you.

    It is very simple really, just don't go there.

    A family member of a friend, who was quite a big deal on Koh Tao, had a motorbike 'accident' and died on Koh Samui just over a year ago. I very much doubt it was an accident and I very much feel it has some connection to someone on that island. So even if you are not on the island and had lived/ had a business there and others in Thailand for over 30years, you are still fair game.

    Do not go to Koh Tao. Thanks

    Mind boggles that after all this time you insist on sounding like a Pattaya barstool sex tourist who just arrived last month to purchase once in a lifetime Jomtien condo opportunity of a lifetimez

    She used to write articles for a Koh Samui online paper. She probably did the right thing going back to UK to write that book. Typical journo, I always bumped into her in a pub. Intelligent but vain.

    Suzanne Buchanan won't be in a hurry to go back to Thailand: from a 2018 New York Times article - Thai Paradise Gains Reputation as ‘Death Island’

    One person still sought by the police is Suzanne Buchanan, editor of The Samui Times, an online news outlet that has reported on the deaths and the rape case.

    She said the warrant would not affect her since she lives in Britain.

    “They are accusing me of peddling fake news when it is not fake,” she said. “And they are accusing me of committing a crime in Thailand when I haven’t been there in two and a half years.”

    You're right of course.

    Most people call it Murder Island.

    Within this 8 minute video I discuss the 5 scuba diving instructors who died on Koh Tao. They are:
    Virat Asavachin aka Mr Ban assassinated in early 2002;
    Yoshie Sazawa aka Sharlyn who vanished for 7 days and then found dead in the jungle on 25 June 2004;
    Alain Dolfen from Belgium  who died following a night dive on 19 March 2021;
    Michael Spjuth from Sweden  the founder of BIG BLUE DIVING , who had a motorbike  accident in December 2021;
    (he is also referred to in a post above); and
    Neil Giblin found dead on 18 January 2023.

    Very interesting post about Michael Spjuth and his untimely death.

    i received a huge amount of abuse for posting information on social media about his death from many Koh Tao locals and apologists. They were typically denying that he had even died notwithstanding doctors had detected he was brain dead , which meant he was dead. Do you have any evidence of foul play?

    In November 2021, the Royal Thai Police issued press releases stating falsely that Michael’s former de facto spouse YOSHIE SAZAWA was found dead in her house with a suicide note back in 2004. However, half a dozen people I spoke with said she vanished and was found a week later outside in the jungle. Most reports included descriptions of injuries plus accounts that she had been pecked at by birds. Your insights could be enlightening.

    Someone there should come up with some "I survived Murder Island" T-shirts and wife beaters. They would fly off the shelves.

    Koh Tao is a fiefdom run by the equivalent of a warlord. Even the pointless, blundering RTP can’t move without his consent.
    By the time any efficient investigation team arrives, any evidence has been removed, burned or buried. Any foreign investigative presence on the island is obliged to bow to the primacy of the ineffectual and xenophobic RTP.

    Its the same as Kohs Phangan and Samui.

    Any foreigner or mainland thai interloper that steps on the toes of or encroaches on the business or territorial interests of the local clan chief will get either a visit, a warning or a bill, or possibly all three. The police are already in the pockets of these chiefs so its no use turning to them. Only with big money can acceptance be guaranteed.

    Either his diving business was too succesful, or he did actually die from an underlying medical condition.

    Koh Tao scuba diving instructor, Su Buchanan closed her eyes as the body count rose around her but the murders of Hannah and David on 15 September 2014 with the subsequent scapegoating of Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo changed everything.
