Pattaya police find another two unlicensed clubs during daily intense crackdown

Pattaya police continued a daily patrol on nightspots around the city and found two unlicensed clubs early this morning, December 4th.

The raid took place at 3:30 AM with the intent to strictly enforce 2 AM closing times and alcohol-selling times in the hope that it would make tourists feel safe, said the patrol police.

Two clubs including the tomboy Fino Pub and the Up to You Karaoke & Pub were raided after police found that partygoers were still partying inside the venues. The officers ordered the pub operators to turn off the music and produce their licenses to operate an entertainment establishment required by law.

The two pubs, according to Pattaya police, failed to show the licenses, so the police took the pub managers to the Pattaya police station to charge them for operating an entertainment venue without a license and selling alcohol beyond the legal time. Police added they would propose to the Chonburi governor to shut down both venues for at least five years.

Despite having possibly good intentions, law enforcement’s daily patrol was incredibly unpopular among foreign tourists based on comments on social media that said the measures were over-the-top and was harming Thailand’s recovering tourism. Some visitors disliked the measures because it was causing them to miss out on World Cup games.

As ever with Thai journalism, the real story is only unearthed at the end of the report - all the interesting and notable World Cup games have a 0200 hrs start.
The Thai authorities being naturally ignorant and cognitively impaired clearly didn’t factor this into their enforcement policies. Of course, one might have thought common sense would have been employed when patrons of bars were found to be only in situ because of the football but that would assume the Thai were seized of common sense, a quality that seems to have escaped them in their evolutionary stage of development.

A couple of venues here openly advertise 2am games and post soshal meeja pictures of bleary-eyed punters.

It seems their cake tins are considered sufficient.

Contrast to Singapore where all pubs may remain open until 05:00 for the remainder of the World Cup in order to show the games.

Hell, didn't know there was such a thing as a separate license to operate beyond legal closing time. Learn something new everyday.

Are the police not the licensing authority in Thailand? Surely they at least have a list of all licensed premises, they go around reminding local bars when they need to close for religious holidays.
So how can they suddenly 'find' an unlicensed bar that is operating in full view?

Apart from gunfights and crossing the road, possibly.

Yeah, that part was particularly laughable.

The nub if we view the BiB as virtuous and the law something enforced without fear or favour it is all puzzling , inconsistent irrational?

However turned on its head some honcho in the brown gang gives his uniformed enforcers the green light do whatever they want, shooting nurses, allowing colleagues to be mown down, dumping opponents in the Nam Mae khong, bribery, pimping, casinos, smuggling, it all comes down to how much injustice can you pay for ?

Somewhere there is a ledger showing a missing payment?

I follow your general drift, I'm still unsure why clubs don't get licensed. Is it absurdly expensive - I mean the official fee? It seems to me the risks from the BiB are similar with and without a licence, except for being closed down as unlicensed.

The big thing here in Pattaya now is lavish pool villas with accommodation, outdoor dining, pool tables, music, gambling tables and heaps of good looking women.

I see it everyday and most are pulling in US$1,000.00 per night but I have to negotiate their garbage.

What happened to the traditional practice of turning the music off, drinking from teacups and dimming the lights?
