Chinese man arrested for allegedly stealing jobs from Thais by operating hairdresser’

Police Region Two and Immigration Police arrested a 34-year-old Chinese man and five foreign employees for running an illegal hairdresser’s shop in Pattaya.

The shop, creatively called “Hair Salon” was located in plain sight on Pattaya Second Road in Banglamung, Chonburi. Police officers led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Teerachai Chamnanmor busted the shop yesterday, November 21st, after receiving a tip-off from anonymous concerned citizens that the shop was operated by a Chinese national without a work permit.

Under the Thai Foreign Business Act, hairdressing and other beauty treatment jobs were one of the professions strictly reserved for Thai nationals only, according to Pol. Maj. Gen. Teerachai.

The hairdresser’s shop’s sign was written in Chinese language. The officers stepped into the shop to find a Chinese barber and two Chinese co-workers servicing a customer. Two Burmese workers were also found inside the shop.

The owner of Hair Salon, Mr. Wang Xuping, a 34-year-old Chinese national, showed up and admitted to the officers that he owned the shop. He claimed that he had operated the place for one year and had no idea it contravened the law. He also claimed he had no idea he had to have work permits for his staff.

The officers informed the man that operating a beauty business was prohibited from foreigners as it made it harder for Thai people to make a living. Eventually, Xuping was charged for employing foreigners without a permit, while his five employees were charged for working as a foreigner without a permit.

All of them were taken to the Pattaya police station for legal action.

Region 2 police have pledged an ongoing crackdown on foreigners working illegally in Pattaya.

Maybe they should have stared at their phone and stuck a finger up their schnoz to be seen as working as a Thai.

Those jobs seem to be reserved strictly for SE Asians in the US...Seems kinda hypocritical. I think it is sad that they have to reserve jobs for Thais.
