Lived there for couple years in the early 90s selling telecom stuff. Witnessed a couple election and I must say Malaysia loves and takes election very serious. Back then there was really only one party that held power, UMNO. Now as your post points out David not so, making results very unpredictable.

Mahathir Mohamad was by far the most powerful politician when I was there. The old boy is still kicking at 97 and I figure he will still have a fair bit of influence in this election.

If Anwar gets the nod for PM that crafty old codger Mahathir will find a way to chuck him in jail.

Anwar is Charlie Brown and Mahathir is Lucy.

He sure will. How well I remember his sodomy trial.

Me too I was living in Penang at that time and I was appraised of the shenanigans by Opera Olga who seemd to know everyone and inroduced me to a local judge Mr West the consul and the lawyer Singh who Anwar sued .

I doubt the Bumis are ready for a Pete Butiggieg or even Hindu or Christian PM today let alone decades back around 2004?

    Mahartir out.

No alliance has won a simple majority.

    BN bigger losses than 2018.

looks like either PH or PN will eventually take power. But might take a few days of horse trading.

I was approached to do so yesterday but ... simply no time.

Mahatir deserves to be dumped, he is like a quiet Trump, bringing chaos to the political landscape . . . BN's stranglehold on power was broken when Najib died politically, and with him hopefully the 'dynasty' leadership.

Anwar is another one who needs to get out of the political arena, he was (and is) quite a bigot towards minorities, which is not forgotten but he was seen as the lesser evil.

Interesting to see how this all pans out, the place was always a cut above most of SEAsia and could be so much more.

Mhathir utterly humiliated, lost his deposit in Langkawi failing to get 1/8th of the votes, at 96 must be the end?
