More than 57,000 passengers arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday

More than 57,000 international passengers arrived at the Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday, confirmed by Immigration Officers.

Immigration Bureau Spokeman Major Geneneral Choengron Rimphadee confirmed yesterday (November 10th) that there were about 25 international flights arriving at the Suvarnabhumi Airport with about 57,000 passengers. Of those 49,000 were foreigners.

This is approaching the same average numbers before Covid-19 which was approximately 60,000 people a day. During this time there are up to 3,000 passengers arriving at the airport per hour. Immigration Officers can check their passports at 3,500 people in half an hour. Immigration stated that they can still manage with no passengers needing to wait outside the main Immigration area.

TPN notes, however, that many complaints have surfaced online from tourists arriving stating that they personally found the arrival process hectic and crowded, depending on the time of day of arrival.

Immigration, however, has blamed most of the issues on airlines or language and communication issues with tourists from some countries and not their own staffing or processing.

As a result of recent significantly increased traffic at Suvarnabhumi many tourism business leaders have called on social media for a collaboration between all relevant involved agencies to ensure there are no further roadblocks and issues as things are expected to only get busier as the first high season since 2019 approaches in Thailand.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, borders were largely shut in Thailand minus quarantines for about two years. Only several months ago did Thailand entirely lift all Covid restrictions, testing, quarantine, paperwork, and other potential obstacles to tourism recovery. As a result, tourists, especially from India, Malaysia, Russia, and Singapore have returned to Thailand in large numbers.

Concerns remain however to ensure that processing and the first impression of a tourist to Thailand after a potentially long flight is positive, notes TPN.

Thai Immigration has stated to the press that they are listening to the opinions of all parties and making appropriate adjustments as needed.

I bet they can’t wait for the Chinese to remove international travel restrictions.

Glad they used about. 25 flights eh? Big planes to bring in over 57,000 passengers.

If the airlines would only start making direct flights again to cities other than Bangkok!

It took me forever to find a flight from Chiang Mai to Japan without stopping in Swampy. Thankfully, Korean Air is about to fly out of CNX again. Woohoo!

Scoot has been flying direct non-stop to Korea for ages.

And there are direct non-stop flights to Hanoi and HCM.

    It's steadily coming back.

Without any Chinese? Can that be correct?

    ^Scoot can kiss my butt.

Their seats are like sitting on concrete.

I don’t think Scoot is flying direct now to ICN, anyways. They stopped during Covid.

Jeju Air has started a direct flight to Incheon from Chiang Mai but their connection to Tokyo was too long.

Well as much as I share your view of flying medium/long haul on LCCs, they must be flying somewhere because I see them taking off every day. They were also operating when they - for a short period - allowed people to do their ASQ in Chiang Mai.

The problem is that airline schedules will lead to bunching and the hourly flow of arriving passengers will fluctuate leading to congestion that overwhelms the control at peak times. The throughput of processing the flow by immigration has been delayed, per passenger, by the biometric capture of fingerprints that has extended the transaction time by at least 30 seconds. Arriving at Swampy circa 1500-1600 hrs is to be avoided.
They need more immigration bums on seats if they are to persist with the biometric processing.

EVA will start flying out of CNX direct to Taipei again. Wife looking at tickets for a US trip after the first of the year. Be nice not have to do all that trek to Swampy, stay a night and fly out.

^ Right. I saw EVA is flying their CNX-Taipei route after the new year. Now if the are doing Taipei-Las Vegas again, I am happy camper.

All a matter of timing for me. EVA has been my go to for years. Roi Et to SFO, Air Asia to Don Muang, taxi to Swampy board EVA. Reverse coming back. Avoids the overnight in Bangers but does make for a long door to door.

The airlines schedule their flights according to the slots available to them. They gave up 70% of them for this year because of Covid uncertainty, and no doubt the Thais are trying to extract the maximum in selling them back, meaning the airlines will gravitate to towards the cheapest available.

It's CAAT that are creating the bunching, the airlines are just trying to keep their costs down.

Add to this the complete inability of immigration to be proactive and you get the daily mess we're seeing now.

Yep. Cut way back on bums on seats during Covid and simply haven't replaced them.

That must be a nice flight, do you stop over in Seoul for a couple of days?
