Korean tourist says they were pickpocketed on Pattaya Beach

A 43-year-old Korean tourist said he was pickpocketed by a transgender person while strolling on Pattaya Beach at night with friends.

Pattaya police were notified of a pickpocketing incident in front of Soi 13/2 in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi, around 11 PM yesterday, November 2nd.

The victim was identified as Mr. Sanghyeon Lee, 43. He told police he was strolling on Pattaya Beach with his friends to exercise and enjoy the scenery when what he described as a transgender person walked up to him and began seducing him to offer companionship.

Lee said he was uninterested, so he denied the stranger’s offer, who gave him a hug before leaving. However, as soon as the transvestite was gone, the victim groped for his cash in his fanny pack and realized his money worth 5,000 baht had disappeared. The suspect was nowhere to be found at that moment, so Lee decided to contact police.

Pattaya police investigated the incident scene and said they would review CCTV footage to track down the suspect.

TPN notes that there have been in terms of pickpocketing issues in the Pattaya area 15 cases so far this year, with the most recent happening on Pattaya Beach in October.

There have been arrests, including this most recent one, and Pattaya police vow they will continue to search for and arrest the suspects.

FFS, tourists can't even stroll on a beach at night without being hassled by a ladyboy.

Patrolling Beach Road and setting up a Katoey target team is of course beyond the capabilities of the local police who are much better employed standing around Dolphin roundabout and outside the police station waiting to waylay unwary farang driving their motorcycles helmet-less or with a passenger also without one. Needless to say, local Thai are not so troubled.

Or he really paid the pickpocketer for services and wanted their money back or it was stolen while services were being rendered. Why would he let the transgender person hug him if he wasn't interested?

Are you a fucking idiot? The creeps stalk their victims and at an opportune time they lunge at the hapless chap diverting his attention whose immediate reaction is to use both hands to push the katoey away freeing the creep to pick his pocket or fanny pack.

It’s basically the same ploy by street urchins in Rome who would hassle victims freeing an accomplice to pounce.

I remember that this was going on for years around Asok in Bangkok by the same merry band until the police finally (I think it made the news) put a stop to it

It was also around the time that the old bill between Asok and Phrom Phong were "randomly" pulling foreigners out of taxis/stopping them on the street and searching them for coke, weed, pills etc...

5,000 is about $150 which is more believable.
