Grab delivery service riders protest against allegedly unfair rule changes

Hundreds of GrabFood and GrabMart riders staged a mass protest today (Thursday), against changes to delivery service rules, issued by their company which, they claim, have resulted in a reduction in their earnings.

The riders gathered in front of the Central World shopping mall in Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong area this morning, before proceeding to their company offices on Phetchaburi Road.

The riders say that the company has imposed a zoning system, which has forced them to operate within each zone instead of throughout Bangkok. They also complain that they are ordered to take two delivery orders at the same time, instead of one, which has reduced their orders and the fees they can charge.

The new rules, say the riders, have restricted their rights and affected their earnings.

At the time of this report, the riders are continuing to rally in front of their company’s office.

Grab Thailand to review new rules, expects solution within two weeks

Grab Thailand, an on-demand delivery service provider, announced today (Thursday) that the company expects to resolve the current conflict with its GrabFood and GrabMart riders within 14 days, after hundreds of them protested today in Bangkok against the company’s rule changes which, they claim, have affected their earnings.

In a statement, issued late this afternoon, the company said that it has always attached importance to the opinions of its “partner” riders and customers, which are used as the bases for improvements to its services.

The company has always been receptive to opinions and suggestions and has opened several channels through which it can receive them, such as its call centre, Grab Facebook and Grab Partner Club, according to the statement.

The company says it will hold meetings with representatives of its drivers, to promote mutual understanding and developways to handle certain issues of mutual interest for theoptimum benefit of the drivers, customers and partner shops.

Regarding riders’ earnings and allocation of work, as raised by the protesters, the company said that it is fully aware of the issues and maintains that any change of rules will have a minimal impact on the riders.

Grab has promised to review its rule changes.

Grab cars have become akin to rocking horse shit in my area in recent weeks, and the fares have jumped considerably at peak times, and I mean by 80% or so.

I'm told that a lot of Grab drivers have hung up their driving gloves and gone back to more fruitful labour thanks to the significant influx of tourists.

Thankfully there is a seemingly ample supply of Grab and Bolt bikes available, which is fine outside the rainy season, although I notice the Scoopy's have a bit of a problem pulling away from lights with me on the back

I ordered a Bolt the other day and a Shoppee-decorated bike with Shoppee-decorated driver arrived to carry me to my destination.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

I never really used Grab, but it's competitor Bolt has, I reckon, been a serious benefit to the convenience and quality of life of most every farang in Pattaya and surrounds. Getting around and food delivery has become a doddle, and low cost with it. Which means, probably other places too. Live long and prosper!
