People living along Mun River in Ubon Ratchathani advised to prepare for evacuation

The rising level of the Mun River, in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani following heavy rain last night, has forced provincial officials to replace their preventive plans with those for evacuation, in anticipation of more heavy rain when Tropical Storm Noru hits the province tonight.

This morning (Wednesday), the water level in the river had risen by about 13cm from yesterday and has started to emerge through drainage system in the municipal area of Muang district.

The Catholic community, which is located in a low-lying area, is experiencing flooding from water rising out of the drainage system.

Officials have expressed concern that the sandbag flood wall may not be able to hold back the swollen Mun River, with more heavy rain expected this evening as storm Noru approaches the province from Laos.

In Warin Chamrap district, which will be the first to be hit by the storm tonight, municipal officials sent a truck, equipped with loudspeakers, today to advise people in the municipal area to prepare to evacuate to higher ground.

The Mun River, which passes through this district, has risen about 20cm in the past 24 hours.

Looks grim just read 3 flights to Ubon from BKK and one from DMK flew up, tried to land, one of them 3 times and came back. Just too much rain and wind.

20cm on the money. I waded in it this morning when I went to feed brown dog that lives under the bridge at 8am. We have had heavy rain for almost 24 hours now, the river was already out of its banks. Thousands are already flooded out, and after this run off hits the flood plain many thousands more will be. And also rumors of damns being opened upstream. Its real bad and gonna get worse.

The weather forecast calls for the storm to be centered over Ubon at midnight. I hope they are wrong. I've been watching radar all day, a huge storm in a circular pattern sitting over Ubon, hope that is the center. 24 more hours of this and we are in some deep shit.

Thanks Norton. I lived here during the 2019 flood, I'm still a good 10 to 12 feet above water level as of today.

Are you drunk again willie ? The rain has just now stopped, so we had a full 32 hours of rain. Now I have to wait for the wind to die down before I can take my boat out and see how many of my dogs are left.

Looking at current radar, the giant swirl looked like it was gonna come back and hit us again. But thankfully it is fading out.

Just got home from the river. The water had been rising 5-6 inches a day. In the last 24 hours maybe 36''.

What part of I hope you're ok do you think exhibits drunk behaviour?

Just because I do not share your point of view on drugs or dogs...
