Thai government preparing for possible floods triggered by rain and monsoons between

The Thai government is preparing for rain and monsoons between late September and early October, Government deputy spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek stated on Thursday, September 22nd.

The deputy spokesperson revealed after the meeting of the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) that the office assessed that a tendency of increasing precipitation is likely as well as the fact that a monsoon trough lies across the central and the eastern region, resulting in the increasing amount of water in the central, eastern and the lower northeastern regions.

Moreover, about one or two storms are also predicted to enter Thailand which would cause more rain in early October.

The ONWR, therefore, would closely monitor the rain and monsoon situation throughout the period while related government agencies would prepare for a possible flood or overflow in the at risk areas to reduce impact on the public as much as possible.

Ratchada stated: “Related departments were ordered to conduct proactive and preventive actions against the flooding and overflow in advance. According to the ONWR assessment, the capability of water levels of large dams can still contain a large amount of water, especially the dams in the northern part, if the storms battered the country in the upcoming weeks.”

“Meanwhile, the Royal Irrigation Department is working on the drainage process at some large dams which are containing a lot of water at the moment to prepare for the increase of water in the near future. There’d also be an assessment of high risk areas and alerting relevant agencies to manage water in accordance with the situation.”

Well I can confirm the storms are here. Was awakened at 5:15 to what I thought was a mortar attack from someone. Windows and house shaking as the pocket blew right over our house. FIL and Dogs freaking out. I calmed the lot down and it slowly moved out but not before it dumped a shitload of water and is still raining now.

Was planning a run to the northern border next week, but in the absence of a suitable seafaring vessel, I think I'll leave it for now.

Had to tiptoe my way around CM today, floods all over the place.

Legged it to Doi Saket where it was far more hospitable.

Tropical Storm Noru to Bring 2 Days of Heavy Rain to Northern Thailand

Thailand’s Meteorological Department reports tropical storm Noru is expected to hit Thailand bringing heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meteorologists have warned the tropical storm will bring heavy rain to Thailand’s north and northeastern regions.

Additionally, it stated that during the same time period, monsoon rains over the southern part of the northern region, the central plains, and the southern part of the northeastern region are forecast to intensify.

This will bring heavy rain and possible flooding to all Thailand regions, except the south.

Last night in Bangkok, there was continuous rain, with flooding reported throughout the city due to heavy rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department’s warning to Bangkok residents, efforts to drain stormwater into the Chao Phraya River through canals may be hampered by a high tide and heavy rains today.

Yesterday, several northern, northeastern, and central provinces reported widespread flooding.

The Mun River is expected to remain high until the end of the month, and river overflows are anticipated in many locations, according to the National Water Command Centre’s forecast.

Defence volunteers in boats on the Mun River in the Warin Chamrap district of Ubon Ratchathani advised riverside residents to notify authorities 12 hours in advance if they wanted to be evacuated to a temporary shelter.

Municipal workers and volunteers in the Phimai district of Nakhon Ratchasima used sandbags to block the drainage system, preventing water from seeping into the Phimai Historical Park and the district’s commercial area.

Drive safe. I have a few Thai colleagues that ping me this morning saying the same thing. They both live in Rangsit.

I can see a spot of blue sky out the window this morning. It won’t last long.

How will I know when the current rain stops and Noru starts? I couldn't get anything done outside over the past two days and it rained through the night. How much water can one sky hold?

I am a bit worried about the tonic stock. I went to Udon yesterday to go to the booze shop and it was shut. It has never been shut before. I might have to ration the vermouth.

All we need are some good olives and we are in business. The ones I ordered have pits! Whoever heard of a jar of green olives with pits?

Now here's a thing. I always bought pitted green olives for my martinis, there is only one brand around here and sometimes a new jar didn't seem fresh even though in date.
Last time out the shelf was empty and the choice was between whole green olives or those pimento stuffed jobbies that I don't rate. All the same brand. So whole green olives it was.
They were a revelation, they tasted much better than any of the pitted ones I have had. Of course more care is required in threading them onto a cocktail stick and when eating them.
Definitely whole olives for me next time. Maybe I was just lucky and more research is necessary. Lots more research.

Don’t get me wrong, the olives taste great. It just doesn’t seem right to have to do a ptui while drinking a martini. I did read where you can whack a whole olive with the flat side of a knife and the pit will pop out.

That gave me a good laugh MK. I mean who launches a Pit drinking a Martini. They are supposed to be put on a toothpick and hard to do with Pits.

I found some really large Green Olives with Pimentos at Villa. Definitely great taste and Martini worthy.
