Burmese construction worker plunges to his death at Chonburi Grand Canyon

A 41-year-old Burmese construction worker reportedly descended Chonburi Grand Canyon to retrieve his meal and plunged to his death.

The terrifying accident occurred today, September 17th, at 1.30 p.m., at Thailand’s Grand Canyon in the Huai Kapi subdistrict of Mueang district, Chonburi. Pol. Lt. Col. Uthai Abmalee from the Samed police station and rescue services rushed to the scene to help a construction worker who had fallen down the canyon.

The worker was a 41-year-old Burmese man, Kying Ngwe. He had sustained multiple serious injuries from the impact and died instantly. Police and rescue services had to rappel down the steep canyon to get the body and bring it back up.

Mrs. Narawadee Praphaidechakul, Moo 7 Village’s village chief, told local Thai media that the Huai Kapi subdistrict was building a stairway down to the canyon’s bottom to facilitate visitors. A group of workers including the Burmese victim was hired to do the work, but she said the victim may have not used a safety rope that the sub-district provided.

The victim’s friend whose name was withheld by police stated that today was actually a day off, but the victim told him he forgot his meal at the bottom yesterday, so he went down there to retrieve it, leading to his tragic demise.

Yeah, in other countries they call it an "accident investigation".

Chonburi Grand Canyon formerly known as a gravel pit? Sill, bus loads of gullible tourists would not pay to visit a gravel pit (OK limestone quarry)

    I'm familiar with that.

I doubt a labourer is going to climb into a pit to grab yesterday's lunch, which left in the heat would be rank right about now.
