Cabbie praised for giving poor family a free ride to Udon Thani

Netizens have heaped praise on a kind-hearted taxi-driver who offered a free ride from Bangkok to the north-eastern province of Udon Thani to a family of three, after they were evicted from a rented room in the middle of the night by the landlord, because of the non-stop crying of their 4-month-old baby girl.

According to the cabbie, Anurak Nakgamthong, who posted the story, the family, including 50-year-old Daoruang Apainipat, his wife and their four-month-old daughter, were evicted from their rented room in the Laksi railway station area on the night of August 10th.

Daoruang admitted that his baby cried a lot, because she had a fever after being vaccinated, and her cries annoyed the landlord, who told them to leave immediately. With no other choice, they took shelter at a nearby market for the night.

The next day, Daoruang found a manual job and earned 500 baht and decided to return home in Udon Thani. He went to the Laksi railway station to buy train tickets to the province, but there was no train service, so he decided to hail a taxi instead.

The first cabbie asked for 1,000 baht, which he could not afford. Then, the second cabbie offered them a free ride, after being told of their ordeal.

The family lives in a concrete house, which is up for sale and does not have electricity or running water.

The assistant district chief officer of Si That district has visited the family and promised to contact the social welfare and human security office to get help for them.

This is such a bullshit story. No Thai cab driver is going to offer a ride to Udon from Laksi, over 500 clicks, at 1000 baht.

For fucks sake, a cab to Hua Hin or Pattaya would be 1,600-2000 baht.

Bet Mendy is charged more than that to go to Khorat.

Still, hard to believe the quote was only 1k.

Looking at an 8-10 hour 600km trip with an overnight and return the next day. 1k baht would barely cover the fuel.

^ 2000 Baht Bangkok - Korat these days, plus highway tolls. Plus snacks and tip for the driver if they go nice and slow. All the taxis use LPG but I have no idea how much that works out as per km.
