It seems people actually filmed victims coming out of the club on fire rather than rendering any assistance, and the ghouls are now sharing these videos on the internet.

If you're thinking of posting any of that shit here, have some fucking decency and don't.

Third world medieval society licenses death trap venue for public entertainment without any functioning fire prevention measures and no apparent fire exits.

Par for the course and obviously have learned their lessons from the Santika disaster of 2009 in Thonglor.

Inadequate fire precautions, lack of a first world fire service, no SHEF assessments and a third world mentality toward public safety, its to be expected.

It was the only news story at the time. Also you would have to go out of your way to open it.

I suppose that means you did.

It's OK, the PM will sort it.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered government agencies to conduct safety inspections of entertainment venues following the devastating fire which occurred last night at Mountain B pub on Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip district of Chon Buri province, killing 13 people and injuring at least 41 more.

I'm wondering what the point of the Santika investigation was. If I remember, one of the main reasons the Santika fire spread so quickly was flammable sound insulation.

And what caused the fire to spread quickly here?

    No prizes.

Apparently, according to C3, this is the interior of the club before the fire. The red rectangle is supposedly the exit.

not giving assistance seems to be an all too common trait in thailand.

at road accidents, onlookers stand around complacently, gawping in amazement and often filming, but offering little in the way of help to the injured.

the scenes outside that club, as the victims ran out screaming and on fire whilst onlookers ran around like headless chickens reaching for their phones is indeed shocking and illustrates the lack of empathy and awareness that sadly is an all too common feature seen in the blinkered, ego driven thai psyche where the importance of self is the overriding feature.

there was one young girl, a human torch, who ran towards the person filming, screaming in pain, the person moves back but continues to follow her filming as she runs around until she falls to the ground. in the background are other people, some on fire, but none of the many bystanders seem to be doing anything to help or comfort them.

^ Not condoning the lack of action on the part of bystanders, but just to note there are NO "good Samaritan" laws here.

^ Exactly. A good friend of mine was involved in a nasty road traffic accident, he tried to give assistance but was pulled back being told that you 'can't help here'. Apparently it's all too common to be sued if you render assistance and there's a bad outcome.

Just for a comparison, in Norway, if it can be proved that you witnessed an accident and didn't offer assistance, you will be prosecuted.

^ yep, you risk going from a bystander to an active participant in the outcome. In Nepal on the Tribhuvan highway there was an accident with a lorry hitting a motorcyclist. We were four vehicles behind. The lorry driver got out and checked the man he'd hit and he obviously decided that his injuries were not fatal but serious and could lead to him covering endless hospital bills, he got back in his lorry and reversed over the man killing him and parked up waiting for the police. Two of us before this were going to go and see what we could do but the crowd that had gathered quickly stopped us. Life is cheap in Asia, unless you have to pay bills etc.

Sound insulation material is supposed to have a fire rating. But that’s for the good stuff. China puts out plenty of cheap versions with none.

    poor souls.

Thai are weird in that they are often rendered dysfunctional whenever they find themselves in a situation that is outside the parameters of their conditioning. Putting it crudely, they show no initiative and are reluctant to engage with strangers. Some years ago I was walking along a busy BKK pavement and turned my ankle badly on its uneven and broken surface - the pain was excruciating and I could only stand by grabbing a post to prevent myself falling while hobbling about and nearly puking from the agony. Not a single fucking bystander offered any assistance as I tried to recover enough to hail a taxi for the hospital - ankle was fucked for nine months. Most times the average Somchai/Noi is a dozy waste of space.

Again, I have a totally different experience of Thailand than you. I have found Thai's, in general, to be a very helpful bunch. Twice I have had problems with my car, twice a Thai stopped, both taxi drivers actually. One help me change my wheel and the other gave me a jump, both refused 100baht for a couple of beers. I think there are many stories of some pretty brave people in Thailand. The Thai Dr who drowned trying to save the stupid tourist the other week comes to mind.

Me Three. I have seen many Thai folks assist others out of kindness and courtesy. One has to consider SA's personal demeanor.

This fire situation likely put most people exiting and trying to get out in panic and others in shock. Takes a few minutes to regroup to jump in and help.

Karma. Your hatred of the Thai people just radiates out of you. They could pick up the vibes of "stay clear of this guy". Bet it remains so today.
