Murdered couple found in fresh forest grave

    "Love triangle" or "Business dispute"?

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A man and a woman were found in a fresh grave in Chok Chai district on Thursday evening and local residents said they were not known to them.

A villager gathering forest products reported finding a fresh pile of earth covered over with branches near Ban Don Lai village in tambon Tha Yiam, about 400 metres from the nearest road.

The village head and other residents went to check it out. They dug into the soil and quicky stopped when they uncovered part of a human body.

Police were called to the scene and rescue workers dug deeper, uncovering the bodies of a man and a woman buried about 1.50 metres deep. The bodies were naked, lying next to each other with their heads turned away.

It was estimated they had been dead at least three days. Local people said they did not recognise them, and there have been no reports of people missing in the general area. Police said it was likely they were murdered elsewhere and their bodies brought to the forest and hidden.

The two bodies were taken to Chok Chai Hospital for full post-mortem examination to support investigation and identification.

The woman had a distinctive tattoo on her back.

    Updated:

Police have distributed photos of the tattoos to help identify the victims, who were believed to be foreigners, possibly migrant workers, because the tattoo pattern was not popular with Thais.
Officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity said later that both victims had been shot in the head and doctors confirmed they had been dead at least a week.

    Another update:

The media quoting unnamed sources close to the autopsy said that the male victim is a foreigner but not an Asian. The woman is thought to be Thai.
Further details on this are expected by Monday.

Yesterday Chokechai police chief Pol Col Bunprote Prasertsak held a meeting with investigators to round up the latest developments in the case.

The victims, said Thai Rath, were encased in some kind of plaster or cement.

They were both shot in the head.

Police have been trying to get a lead through CCTV but initial examinations of the woman's body are proving to be the best chance yet of establishing who she, and her partner, were.

The woman had a crown tattoo on her back and another tattoo of a string of flowers circling her right wrist. Pictures of these have been circulated by the police. Thai Rath did not publish any.

Even more promising is the fact that the woman had had breast enhancement surgery and there is a serial number and microchip in the silicone.

Online information suggests that some breast implants do indeed contain chips, notes ASEAN NOW.

Police are contacting businesses that perform such surgery in the hope that this will identify the woman and subsequently her partner.

Yesterday we reported that there were no reports of missing people in the area where the bodies were found in a 1.5 meter deep grave some 400 meters from a road near the village of Ban Por Phran.

I'm pretty sure in proper episodes of CSI, they contact the manufacturer and find out to whom it was sold.

UPDATE: Thai Police still trying to identify bodies in Nakhon Ratchasima murder, male was a foreign national

Thai Police are still trying to identify two bodies of a male foreigner and a female Asian woman, now believed to be Thai, from her silicone breast surgery and tattoos in a Nakhon Ratchasima murder.

The Chokchai Police Chief Captain Boonprod Prasertsak told Thai media, “The woman has a crown tattoo with a blue diamond in the middle on her hip, a flower tattoo on her right wrist, Ganesha and Japanese cat tattoos on her legs.”

“The female body also had silicone breast surgery. We are attempting to identify the surgical clinic used based on the brand.” Boonprod added.

“The autopsy of the male body has proved that he was not Asian. He had curly hair. We are searching families to see if there are reports of a missing person or perhaps a missing son-in-law.” Boonprod stated.

General Suchart Teerasawat, deputy chief of the national police, told Thai media, “The autopsy of the female body has identified her as Thai. In addition, there is a report that a woman saw a minivan came into the area before the bodies were found. However this part we are still investigating to see if there was a minivan like the woman said and if the minivan is related with the bodies.”

TPN will continue to update this developing story as more information is released from relevant authorities.
