Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand will begin charging international arrivals a 300-baht tourism fee in the third quarter of this year. The fee will be used to provide benefits such as insurance and emergency assistance to foreign travelers.

According to Chote Trachu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Of Tourism and Sports, the Thailand Tourism Fee (TTF) system will be implemented by airlines between August and September 2022. The collection of the fee is in line with the National Tourism Policy Act of 2008, which authorized the creation of a fund to be funded by fees collected from foreign visitors.

Chote said the fund will be used to develop tourist sites, provide 30-day insurance coverage, and assist tourists in emergency situations such as sickness, accidents, or other incidents while in Thailand.

The TTF system is expected to be integrated with airline websites, displaying a fee collection screen for holders of foreign passports. Airlines must assist in screening fee-paying tourists before issuing tickets, and the final passenger manifest must be submitted to the data link 15 minutes after each flight departure.

Diplomats, government officials, people with work permits from countries that have signed a memorandum of understanding with Thailand, and children under the age of two will be exempted from paying the tourism fee.

Officials said local and international airlines will be invited to register to pilot the system integration, which will begin on May 2. The ministry will provide training and conduct tests to ensure that the TTF system operates smoothly following its publication in the Royal Gazette.

Do they still not charge foreigners 700baht to leave?

Bottomless pit of money, I suppose.

Departure tax has been used by just about all countries in the world since I began travelling 40+ years ago. With the increase here 15 years ago that price became included in the ticket price and you no longer had to physically pay the 500B cash on departure. Nobody likes the 300 baht surcharge that is coming, but it is small in reality and will be included in your ticket price. Not that big of a deal.

Even a total of Bt1000 for a combined arrival/departure tax is nothing compared to many countries.

And frankly if you're quibbling about paying it, you should probably stick with staycations.

Your lack of comprehension is not my problem. Ask your minder to read the words more slowly.

Bet the airlines will love this, as it is only to be charged to foreigners (non-Thais) and not everyone (i.e. a bit more complicated to implement).

And as set, it really cannot be considered a tourism tax, as foreigners who work here will most likely not be exempt.

I think the departure tax is paid by all (foreign and Thai).

Have you bought a plane ticket recently? I can't remember the last time I wasn't asked for my passport details.

Given that, it should be a piece of piss to implement, and any airline run by someone with half a brain cell should have at least started the development process when this was first announced.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

I wish they would eliminate the need for covid instance and I would gladly pay double the 300 baht on arrival.
IMO the concern about 300 bht on arrival is much to do about nothing.

I suppose the fee will at least provide some cover for the idiots who travel without insurance.

But it would put a dent in GoFundMe's profits.

The "Passenger Service Charge" applies to everyone leaving.

This "arrival tax" is a tax on foreigners, most of which will of course get trousered and get nowhere near the purpose for which they claim it is intended.

And of course the tens of thousands of retirees and spouses who have been continuously resident for years, in many cases more than a decade, are still classified as fucking tourists by these money grubbing racist tossers looking for yet more ways to scam.

And dressing it up under the pretext it is meant to compensate for the uninsured who require medical help and cannot pay is of course quite spurious and as credible as their deputy prime minister claiming all his expensive watches were 'borrowed'.

So I saw a twatter earlier that suggested airline websites will have a link that takes you to a Thai government website where you will be able to purchase the tax online and get a number (or probably another fucking QR code as they seem obsessed with them) that you can present to immigration.

And of course we know how good the Thais are at securing websites.
