Canadian shot dead at a villa in Phuket

Phuket police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Canadian at a villa in Muang district of the resort island last night.

Police have checked the CCTV system at the villa, located on Viset Road in the Rawai sub-district, and discovered that, at about 10pm, the victim drove a car into the villa, alighted from it and was about to enter his room.

Two unidentified men approached the victim and fired more than ten shots into him. Several spent shells were found on the floor of the villa by police, who arrived this morning after having received a call from a cleaner.

Police said that they are yet to determine the motive for the murder, but are attempting to identify the two perpetrators.

Interesting that 10 or 20’shots fired at 10pm was not enough to call police

Moment gangster, 30, was shot dead outside his luxury villa in Phuket in gangland shoot-out after fleeing to Thailand when he was deported from Canada

Horrifying CCTV footage shows Mandeep Singh, 30, being shot at repeatedly
The gangster was deported from Vancouver, British Colombia, six years ago
It is alleged Singh was targeted in the gang-related shooting on Friday night

A notorious gangster been found dead after being repeatedly shot outside a luxury villa in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows Mandeep Singh, 30, being repeatedly shot at by three men as he arrived home in a red MG.

Singh, who was allegedly part of a Canadian gang, was six years ago deported for 'serious criminality' from Vancouver, British Colombia, before fleeing to the popular holiday island of Phuket.

He was allegedly targeted in a gangland shooting and gunned down at around 10.30pm on Friday night outside the villa, which is part of a hotel complex.

In the chilling clip Singh can be seen arriving home in a red MG before three men emerge holding semi-automatic handguns.

They hid behind another vehicle parked in the driveway before pouncing on the gangster and opening fire, unloading at least 18 rounds into his body while he was on the ground.

Neighbours through the sound was firecrackers being discharged for Chinese New Year, but resort staff found Singh's body at around 6.30am local time before calling the police.

Police said Singh had at least 18 bullet wounds across his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers cordoned off the scene and found bullet casing scattered around the ground.

Major General Sermphan Sirikong, commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, said officers are now checking CCTV around the hotel to find the killers.

He said: 'The assailants broke into the hotel complex and used two different guns to kill the victim, who died at the scene.'

Police said that Singh arrived in Thailand on January 27 on a tourist visa and that the gangster also allegedly had a home in Dubai, around six hours away by plane.

The police chief added: 'Officers examined CCTV footage at the scene of the crime and found that on February 4, at around 10.30pm, the deceased arrived in a red MG vehicle.

'In front of the villa at the scene while getting out of the car to enter the villa, there were two or three male assailants running in from a dark corner using firearms to fire until Mr Singh fell to his death, with the assailant taking only 10 seconds to commit the crime. They then ran back in the original direction.

'Witnesses at the scene were a friend next to the villa and a housewife who found the body.

'They said there was a sound similar to firecrackers at the scene, but no one thought that it was the sound of guns until the morning when someone found the body, so the authorities were notified to check.'

Nineteen torn 9mm and .830 bullets, some cash and marijuana were found when the vehicle and crime scene were investigated.

Singh, who was born in Chennai, India, before moving to Canada aged seven, was allegedly part of the 'United Nations' gang in the country, the name referring to the different backgrounds of its members.

He grew up with relatives in Abbotsford before getting caught up in gang life and convicted of serious assaults in 2010 and 2012.

He was deported in 2016 the arrested in India in 2018 and charged with operating a large ketamine factory.

After he was released on bail, he disappeared and is believed to have been travelling between Dubai and Southeast Asia ever since.

The gangster was known as Slice, due to a big scar on his right cheek, the Vancouver Sun reported.

The publication also said Chalong Police in Phuket told local media that the dead man had ID which identified him as Mandeep Sing or Amarjit Singh Sindhu.

In the link there is a photo of his Canadian passport. If he was deported in 2016, how did he get a passport issued last year?

Pretty hard to fake. More than likely an extended family member working in government, with "diversity" being so rampant in Trudeau land.

Do you work for the NY Post? We haven't been snowy white for some time now Tom. But we surely are not 95% South Asian, which is about the ratio you will see in Gov't offices, the other 5% being LGBTQ of course.

Might just be me, but the mechanics of this are intriguing. Phuket is an island, and pretty much all international travel is controlled. So - people coming to Phuket specifically to off him would seem unlikely? Plus the difficulty (?) of securing three firearms in Phuket.

Other option is locals contracted to do the job. Which would seem pretty difficult to organize also. Like, dial a Phuket hitman? Or a mainlander - is travel overland to Phuket still restricted/monitored?

Any which way seems like a fairly difficult thing. He must have really upset someone.

It's almost like there could be criminal gangs operating in Thailand.

    Who woulda thunk eh?

One for the firearms experts here, what is a .830 bullet? Is that is a reference to the imperial size of the bullet, that would stop an Elephant let alone Mr Sing/Singh

I saw that and figured some sort of Typo. Likely a .308 or could be a 380 handgun. Lots of them made by Ruger, Glock etc.

Notorious former B.C. gangster shot to death in Thailand

B.C.’s anti-gang task force is working to head-off possible retaliation after a high-profile former B.C. gangster was shot to death near his beachside villa in Phuket, Thailand.

Sgt. Brenda Winpenny of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit said Saturday that the slaying of UN gangster Jimi (Slice) Sandhu in Thailand could reverberate in B.C.

“CFSEU-B.C. will be utilizing all resources, sharing intelligence and developing strategies with our policing partners to mitigate any potential retribution or violence associated to his death,” she said.

Despite Sandhu getting deported from Canada in 2016 for “serious criminality,” the Indian-born gangster continued to have influence in B.C.

Police on the popular tourist island said they were looking for two people captured on surveillance video at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday local time firing at Sandhu after he pulled into the parking lot of the Beachside Hotel.

His body wasn’t discovered until 6:30 the next morning. He was carrying identification in two other names, including a Canadian passport. Maj. Gen. Sermphan Sirikhong, chief of the Phuket police, told local reporters that Sandhu had arrived on Jan. 27 and was staying at the villa wing of the hotel.

A staff member at the hotel told Postmedia News that the shooting victim “owned” a villa there and was therefore not registered through the hotel’s booking system.

Police were combing the grounds of the luxury compound on Saturday to gather evidence in the case, she said.

Sandhu wasn’t the first B.C. gangster to be murdered abroad. Others have been killed in Argentina and Mexico. Winpenny said it’s hard to escape the violence associated with gang life, even for those who leave Canada.

“We have seen several gang members either flee the country to escape threats of violence or, in some cases, deported. A continued, long-entrenched gang lifestyle follows you wherever you go, and eventually, your enemies will find you, or you will be arrested and held accountable for your actions,” she said.

The UN, the Brothers Keepers and the Red Scorpion/Kang group are among the B.C. gangs locked in a violent war that has led to dozens of murders in recent years. Some BK gangsters celebrated Sandhu’s murder in social-media posts when the news broke here Friday afternoon.

Sandhu had moved to Canada as a seven-year-old and grew up with relatives in Abbotsford. After getting caught-up in the gang life and convicted of serious assaults in 2010 and 2012, he faced deportation. At his 2015 immigration hearing, he pleaded for another chance to stay in Canada and said he had changed his ways.

“I would just like one chance, one opportunity to prove myself to you,” he said at the time. “I won’t let you down.”

But the board official was unconvinced and ordered him out of the country . He left in early 2016.

Then, in June 2018, he was arrested in India and charged with operating a large ketamine factory. After he was released on bail, he disappeared and is believed to have been travelling between Dubai and Southeast Asia ever since.

In B.C., Sandhu was also charged with killing Red Scorpion gang leader Matt Campbell in Abbotsford in January 2014, but the charge was stayed a year later.

Known as Slice for the big scar on his right cheek, Sandhu was close to UN member Karman Grewal , who was gunned down outside Vancouver airport last Mother’s Day. No one has yet been charged in his death.

Sandhu was once closely associated to Jujhar Khun-Khun , who pleaded guilty in 2018 to conspiracy to kill Red Scorpion Jonathan Bacon in 2011. And Sandhu was close to Sukh Dhak, who was behind the Bacon murder and shot to death in November 2012.

Another close associate of Sandhu’s was robbed of an expensive chain in Dubai in recent days. The person who took the jewelry then posted a video on social media.

Abbotsford police were so concerned about Sandhu’s gang involvement that they took the extraordinary step in 2015 of warning the public to steer clear of him or risk getting caught in the crossfire. The same year at his immigration hearing, Sandhu acknowledged the risk of gang life:

“I know that path is either go to jail or you die.”
