Worker rescued from outside 26th floor after alleged rope cut

Well this is a pretty chilling story. Do you believe it, or did this workman just mess up and is fibbing to try and keep his job?

Worker rescued from outside 26th floor after alleged rope cut

At a 32 story condominium in Nonthaburi, a painter was rescued while dangling outside the 26th floor, alleging that someone cut his safety rope. The incident took place in Pak Kret district of the Bangkok suburb to the west of the capital earlier this week.

According to reports in Thai media, two painters were doing work in the middle of the day on the outside of the highrise condo, suspended by support ropes, when someone in the building cut the rope from a floor somewhere above the workers.

The man precariously perched 26 floors above the street, at the 5-way intersection at Lumpini, below pounded on the window of the apartment he was hanging outside of in order to attract attention and get help.

A British man and his Thai partner lived in the apartment and came to the rescue. They were able to open the window and help the dangling man to safety, pulling him into the apartment. They looked down and confirmed the severed rope lying in a pile on the floor 26 stories below.

Though the painter was accustomed to working very high up and not generally afraid of heights, he was said to be shaking when rescued after the rope were cut after narrowly avoiding a plunge from the upper floor.

There was no mention of whether a police report had been filed or if there was any investigation into the allegations that the severed rope had been done intentionally or maliciously.

Great title from Thaiger there, not. Pretty sure there was indeed a rope there.

Surely it's pretty easy to see if a rope has been cut or not.

Around 10 years ago the window cleaners on Baiyoke Tower had new longer platforms installed, but no one thought of adding extra ropes to support the new extra weight.

Rope snapped, one worker went splat next to the swimming pool on the 5th floor, one was left dangling and saved, the safety harnesses were untouched and unharmed due to not being used.

    You'd think so, eh?

But maybe not by the couple who rescued him from the 26th floor.

Police say they know who cut the rope of dangling condo workers

If yesterday’s story about a worker who was rescued from the 26th floor of a condo in Nonthaburi after his safety rope was allegedly cut left you hanging, new information has been revealed. Police investigating the incident say they know who cut the rope that left the painters dangling high above the street on the side of the condo, unable to get down.

The story had gone viral after videos were posted to TikTok by the couple in the 26th-floor apartment that opened their windows and rescued the 2 workers after they were stranded when someone allegedly cut their safety rope.

The administration of the condominium contacted the police to investigate the incident. Police say they know who cut the rope and would be bringing them in today for questioning.

The condo administration say they had issued notice to residents of repair work to be done that day and advised closing windows and removing valuables from balconies to avoid damage. They declined to comment further on the incident.

The worker whose line was cut has been identified as a Burmese man named Song, and he said he saw someone he believed to be on the 21st floor open their window and cut the rope. Without the safety rope, he could not get down without being rescued.

He had descended from the 32nd floor with 2 friends to fix a crack in the building’s exterior. Around the 30th floor, he felt the rope getting heavier and he looked down to see a pair of hands of what he described as a well-dressed woman reaching out and cutting the rope.

He watched in horror as the rope fell away to the ground 26 floors below, where police found it severed amongst some plants later. They have taken the rope as evidence and are doing a forensic investigation on it.

The Burmese worker tried in vain to knock on windows to get attention and be rescued but several apartments were empty. He finally caught the attention of a British man and his Thai partner in their 26th-floor apartment and they helped him in.

Angry Thai woman cuts support rope for painters working on high-rise building

A resident of a high-rise building in Thailand has cut a support rope being used by two painters working outside, leaving them hanging above the 26th floor until a couple rescued them, according to police.

    Key points:

    • The woman was reportedly angry she had not been told painters would be working
    • The 34yo has confessed to cutting the rope but denied trying to kill the workers
    • She could be jailed for up to 20 years if found guilty of attempted murder

The woman is facing attempted murder and property destruction charges, Colonel Pongjak Preechakarunpong, chief of the Pak Kret police station, north of the Thai capital, said.

Colonel Pongjak did not say what prompted her to cut the rope, but Thai media reported she was frustrated when the workers appeared outside her room because she had not seen an announcement they would be working on October 12.
