Similan Islands are scheduled to be reopened this Friday, October 15th, after being closed for about seven months following the Department of National Parks Wildlife and Plant Conservation’s order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus.


Tatsanet Petchkong, chief of the Similan Islands National Park, revealed to the press that the islands will be fully opened for domestic tourists from 15 October 2021 to 15 May 2022, or approximately for 7 months.


The islands have limited the capacity to 3,850 visitors per day. The activities on the island will mostly be one-day trips and diving activities which are limited to only 525 people/day.

In order to comply with New Normal measures, tourists will have to apply for the trip through local tourist agencies only. Operators will also have to purchase entrance tickets for their customers no later than 60 days. Tickets can be purchased from October 14th, 2021 to May 14th, 2022.

Other operators, such as boat businesses and diving institutions, must be qualified under SHA PLUS prior to the island reopening before being allowed to purchase the tickets. If they are not, all of the employees must present thier vaccination certificate before operating.


Tourists must be certified by the SHA-approved operators. They must individually carry a copy of their vaccination certificate during the trip. Prior to the trip, tourists can buy tickets from the Similan Islands National Park office or book through a travel agency.


“All 85 staff of the Similan Islands National Park have received three shots of Covid-19 vaccines. The National Park will be 100% operated under international standards, so tourists can be assured. The first day of ticket sales will start today, October 14th,” Similan Islands chief Tatsanet concluded.
