Three people rescued after five hours floating in the sea after their boat capsizes

Three people have been rescued after they were floating in the sea for five hours after their fishing boat capsized in Mueang Chonburi.

Marine rescue divers were notified of the incident in the sea in the Ang Sila sub-district earlier this week (October 10th).

Mr. Eakkasak Sermsri, 45, a rescue diver, told local Thai media, “The fishing boat had capsized ten kilometers from the shore.”

“Two hours after starting a search when we had an emergency call for help we found three people were floating in the sea who were Mr. Olan Tuamthong, 32, Mr. Yon Wutthiyasarn, 39, and Mr. Tanaphon Kennarkm, 42.”

Mr. Olan spoke with the Thai media after being rescued and stated, “There were strong wind and waves. A big wave hit our boat while we were fishing in the sea and the boat capsized. We were holding our bags which were turned into airbags to be used as flotation devices. One of us had a life vest as well. After that, we called 1669 emergency responders with the emergency equipment we had in our bags and waited for help.”

The boat captain, Mr. Tanaphon, told the Thai media, “When I realized that the boat was going to capsize I told everyone to jump off from the boat. We might have been pulled down under the sea if we did not jump off.”

All three men did not suffer any injuries and stated that although the situation was nerve-wracking, they would be returning to fishing this week. However, they will likely keep a closer eye on weather reports with more rain expected this weekend. They expressed their heartfelt thanks to rescue workers for saving their lives.
