Very heavy rains expected in parts of North and Northeast

BANGKOK (NNT) - Increased rainfall is expected in Thailand during this period, with very heavy rains likely in some areas of the North and Northeast.

The Meteorological Department reported that a strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, the Southern Region, and the Gulf of Thailand while the tropical depression Lionrock covers the upper part of Laos. These conditions will result in increased rains over Thailand, with very heavy rains being likely in some areas of the North and Northeast. Isolated heavy rains are forecast for the Central Region, the Eastern Region, and the South’s west coast. People in risk areas are urged to beware of the heavy rainfall and rainwater accumulation that may cause overflows and flash floods.

Strong wind is likely in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand. Waves are 2-3 meters high in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, about 2 meters high in the lower Gulf, and more than 3 meters high in thundershowers. All ships are urged to proceed with caution and keep away from thundershowers. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand should keep ashore.

The weather bureau reported that tropical storm Kompasu in the Pacific, to the northeastern part of the Philippines, is yet to have effects on Thailand’s weather.

Meanwhile, the water levels in Thailand’s major rivers are expected to increase, except in the Northern Region. The National Water Command and relevant agencies are monitoring water levels and are laying down the management framework for the water situation in the Chi-Mun river basin. The peak amount of water mass in Chi River, currently flowing through Maha Sarakham, is expected to reach Ubon Ratchathani on 23 October. Some effects may be had on lowlands along the riverbanks in Ubon Ratchathani, which is host to three major rivers. Officials have pre-emptively installed water propelling machines to push some water out into the Mekong River ahead of the arrival of the water mass from Chi River.

Downpour lasted 5 minutes here east of Chiang Mai and has just finished.

But it looks like more on the way.

Coming down heavy right now in Khon Kaen.
I sat under the house with a bottle of Captain Morgan rum, , a couple of cans of Schweppes , and our dogs around me, Tried to do a little reading but could not concentrate, so I just watched the rain fall until dark.

Rain back here, but now feels like that slow and steady stuff that will last 'til dawn.

Fierce downpours here are almost always very short lived.

not the time Dave. Storms hitting back to back and flooding along the Chaopraya from Ang Thong to Bangkok. Normal in a heavy rain season, but these 2+ storms coming coupled with high tides are not good.

I am usually a vodka and tonic man, but I try to mix it up (Pun intended)
I had these sodas the wife got from Macro, and tried some with Rum. Not bad not bad at all.
If you have a chance try it.
Coming down in buckets right now, we have C-pack roof tiles and you usually can't hear the rain at all, only the water dripping From the eaves , but I can hear it hitting the trees right now, it's loud. Good sleeping noise.

The fish are doing swimmingly LOL

I think this storm has dissipated. It was supposed to hit BKK late last night and into the early morning. Also clear blue hear today.

My Thai is not very good, but from this picture to the right of the graphic, I deduced that it is an alien invasion by water loving creature of unknown origin.
I suggest you all do what I do in such situations, which is pour myself a drink, and monitor the situation with mild interest.

    More rains expected until Saturday

BANGKOK (NNT) - Cyclone Kompasu in the South China Sea is expected to cause more rainfalls in Thailand this week. Thai authorities are now monitoring the development of this storm.

Provinces in the northeastern region namely Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakhon Nakhon, Bueng Kan, can expect to see some effects this week.

Cyclone Kompasu is currently moving west over the South China Sea and towards the coast of Vietnam, where it is expected to make landfall on Thursday.

From Tuesday to Saturday, other parts of Thailand can expect more rainfalls, with heavy precipitation in some areas, due to the effect of the monsoon trough prevailing over the central parts of the country. Fewer rains are expected from 17 October.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued a warning on potential flash floods and landslides in 18 provinces across the northeastern, northern, and southern regions.

Communities along the banks of key rivers, including the Mekong River, are advised to be on alert for possible overflows, especially in low-lying areas.

According to the Office of the National Water Resources, water levels in major rivers are increasing, except in the northern region where water levels seem to be subsiding.

Areas currently affected by floods must be closely monitored during this period, both the Chao Phraya River basin in the central region, and the basin of Chi and Mun rivers in the northeastern region.

For you, I resize them so you can see them on that 12" CRT monitor. Glad it helps.

Man has it been a all out downpour since 7am. Still raining quite hard and has not let up. My rain gauge has since left me as my Lab puppy decided it was of interest to her and down the pole went. But I would say easily 3" to 5". I haven't checked on the river yet

6:30 am here in Khon Kaen, Roof on the house next door looks dry, so i guess it did not rain last night.
    but overcast and threatening.
Having a cup of coffee and a generous slice of banana bread for breakfast.
No intermittent fasting today I guess.

If Thailand wants to survive, maybe they should start rebuilding it on stilts.
