Police in the Isaan province Khon Kaen are searching for a man who allegedly raped and beat a Thai masseuse. The woman was found laying naked, drenched in blood on the floor of a local massage shop. The suspect is believed to be an Australian man around 45 to 55 years old. Witnesses say he was wearing a pink shirt and drove off on a red motorcross motorcycle.


A woman nearby the shop saw the man walk out and drive off on the motorcycle. Someone noticed water coming out of the shop and called the owner, who lives in Bangkok. The owner checked the CCTV camera and saw the masseuse laying on the floor by the refrigerator.

Police reviewed the surveillance camera footage and sent footage of the suspect to checkpoint officers as well as immigration and police stations. An investigating team are going by local guesthouses, hotels, and motorcycle shops that are popular among expats to track down the suspect.


Thai media reports that the victim’s son told officers his mother had been working in Australia for about 7 years and returned to Thailand earlier this year. He added that he has no idea who the man is, or if she knew him before the incident.

An American man arrested in Bangkok for the assault and rape of a masseuse in Khon Kaen claimed he was high on drugs at the time, police said on Saturday.


The 37-year-old suspect, whom police identified only as Robert, was arrested at a hotel on Soi Nana off Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok.

The arrest took place five days after a 45-year-old masseuse was severely assaulted and raped at a traditional massage parlour in Muang district of Khon Kaen.

After the suspect fled on a motorcycle, he committed an obscene act against a 13-year-old girl in Ban Phai district of the northeastern province, said Pol Gen Damrongsak Sajjaphan, a deputy national police chief.

Earlier media reports had said that the girl was rescued from a rape attempt by a foreigner who matched the description of the man wanted for the rape.

The case shocked the public, and national police chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk ordered a maximum effort to bring the perpetrator into custody as he showed no fear of the law, said Pol Gen Damrongsak.

Police examined closed circuit video from the scene of the assault and other locations and checked on data from the Immigration Bureau that shed light on the American suspect.

Investigators found that he was staying at a hotel on Soi Nana in Bangkok, and sought approval from the Khon Kaen provincial court to arrest him.

Seized from the man’s room were the clothes he wore on that day the offences were committed. The arresting officers also seized his motorcycle.

Police have charged him with physical assault causing serious injuries to another person, rape, and illegal detention.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to the charges, police said. He claimed he had taken speed pills on that day and this aroused his sexual desire. He is being held in police custody pending further legal action.

A recently-arrested American man who allegedly raped a female massage therapist in Khon Kaen has refused to reenact the crime scene which was planned today, October 3rd, for what he said were personal safety reasons.


37-year old suspect Robert Andrew Gordon, who is reportedly originally from Colorado in the United States, was arrested yesterday at a condominium in Soi Na Na on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok after days of fleeing from his alleged crime against a 45-year-old masseuse and attempted sexual abuse against a young girl in a northeastern province.
The suspect has now been taken and been detained at the Mueng Khon Kaen Police Station before the police will make a formal detention request with the provincial court tomorrow, October 4th. The suspect’s girlfriend and lawyer have reportedly arrived from Amnat Charoen and are participating in the process with the foreign suspect. It is unknown at this point if he will be eligible for bail.


The suspect has reportedly admitted to the crimes, however, claims he was under the influence of drugs and not in the right state of mind and according to some analysts appears to be attempting to claim that his actions were not his own but due to being under the influence of speed. This has been met with wide anger and derision on Thai and foreign social media.

Police Colonel Preecha Kengsarikit, chief of Muang Khon Kaen station, told reporters that the reenactment of the crime scene was scheduled for today in the afternoon but was canceled as the suspect refused to do so, reasoning that he was concerned about his own safety. This angered family members and relatives who had traveled a fair distance to Khon Kaen hoping to encounter the suspect in person and demand answers as to why he conducted the actions he allegedly did.


Many Thai “netizens” asked why on social media the reenactment was canceled, as it is normally Thai law, but claimed that if the suspect was Thai it would have gone ahead regardless of possible safety issues.


Further interrogation, therefore, will take place before all evidence and confessions will be collected and presented to the court, according to Khon Kaen police.


Colonel Preecha noted that the suspect was being held in a regular cell at the Mueang Khon Kaen police station and did not have any special treatment. He stated that the suspect was mostly calm, although had been complaining that he was suffering from leg pains.

The case has garnered widespread anger on social media across Thailand. We will continue to cover the case in the days ahead.

As he has apparently confessed to all charges, the purpose of a re-enactment of the crime serves what purpose? His refusal to take part in a circus event, is probably the only sensible thing he has done in the last month.
