Individuals Aged 18 & Over To Get COVID-19 Vaccine In Bangkok

Individuals aged 18 and over will be able to reserve a spot for COVID-19 vaccination at Bangkok’s Bang Sue Grand Station beginning from the end of the month, with inoculations planned to begin at the start of next month.

Mingkwan Wichaidit, the director of the Institute of Dermatology, in his capacity as the director of Bang Sue Grand Station vaccination centre, said yesterday that the centre will only provide jabs to individuals who have reserved a spot in advance.

As such, she said, individuals over the age of 18, especially those who are suffering from chronic health conditions, are urged to book their appointment once it opens.

She said the centre will now expedite the vaccination of senior citizens, as well as those who suffer from seven underlying health conditions and obesity, which are known factors that may aggravate COVID-19 symptoms.

Dr Wichaidit said the centre has been vaccinating an average of 17,000 individuals each day, with most people who have booked a vaccination appointment preferring to come between 7am and 10am.

Retired doctors have been helping out at the station, with some working up to 10 hours each day to speed up inoculations, while traffic police, aided by soldiers and volunteers are deployed to manage the traffic congestion at the station, she said.

As of Sunday, the government had vaccinated 15,994,842 people nationwide, 12,339,985 of whom had received one dose while 3,654,857 others had completed both rounds.

In Bangkok, 5,318,434 people have been vaccinated, with 3,341,846 having received one dose and 988,294 others having completed both shots.

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the 13 million vaccine doses which will arrive in Thailand between this month and next month, will be allocated to vulnerable groups to help reduce the rate of hospitalisation and secure beds for other people.

It adds up to total doses, not to people.
